Here's my thinking regarding workflow and 24p 'isms of the past:
On my last project, my 24p (not advanced) footage looked great when broadcast. Had to deal and be aware of the 7.5 ire issues, but once that's figured out all was a go. The problem I'm having though, after broadcast delivery, is going to DVD. Without having the pull down removed there are constant issues when there is a lot of movement in the shot. Those 2 damn extra fields always add unwanted blur and hroizontal banding - especially 35mm footage transfered, but also the DVX stuff. About to start a new feature doc and thinking of going 24p advanced, get rid of the 2 extra field right at the top, then Nattress any 60i footage (from extra mini cams) to 24p. This will give me better looking DVD's and less headaches. When output to Digibeta, proper pull-down will be added for broadcast anyway.
Also, think I'll avoid thick mode and go with thin or medium.
Additionally, was debating stretch mode for this one, but think I stick with 4:3 and crop to 16:9. It's worked for me in the past and the broadcaster wants the opportunity to take it to festivals. Wouldn't mind stretched mode for DVD's but hate to get things all messed up at the last stages of going to delivery.
Anyone's thoughts and experience with this workflow?
