Switching back and forth - PP vs AE

Guys just tell me how u all do.
With Premiere it is hard/impossible to do motion graphics and certain effects for which we may use AE.
I have a lengthy movie that I need to have a small duration where I may want to edit it with AE (for an example a time freezed effect for 10 seconds - using Time Remapping).
After rendering only that small clip from AE(as avi) I bring it back to PP where it is easier to do organize the lengthy clips and arrange the movie with other necessary effects and transitions.
When finally I render the entire movie as DVD from PP there is a quality degradation especially for the clip I edited in AE.

Tell me how you do these things. Do you guys if in the above case edit the entire movie in AE ?
Is'nt it so difficult work with such a lengthy movie with AE only?
Or is there a special way to take that clip from AE to PP.

If you bought the entire Adobe Production Suite then Adobe Bridge will allow you to import After Effects project into Premiere Pro and vice versa. No rendering necessary.

..yeah, the new adobe dynamic link lets you basically put an AE comp into your PPRo timline and you can run Ae and PPro at the same tima and make changes to your comp in AE, and switch over to PPRo and the changes are already there instantly updated on your timeline. that way you only render once in PPRO, and never have to render out of AE to get your comp into PPRO. you can also put PPRO projects into AE.

Yeah dynamic linking has saved me sooooo much time. I'd never even bother to try and edit an entire movie in AE - way too hard. Not the right tool for the job. When you are rending in AE are you doing an uncompressed avi? FWIW premiere's DVD output has always given me poor results.

Is it practical to edit in Premiere, and then use the Dynamic Link feature to bring up your time line in AE or reference your Premiere edit in AE, so as to use plugins in AE like Colorista or the new Magic Bullet Looks (soon to be released), together with AE's advanced tools like masks and adjustment layer, etc. I am curious as to an ideal and practical work flow when wanting to do a DV Rebel's Guide style master grade, whilst trying to work within Premiere's memory issues that appear to slows down the system on long form projects. I hope the new CS3 Production Premium overcomes what appears to be the memory problems of PP2.

I would be interested to learn more about the best method, and practical, to integrate Premiere and AE (assuming I purchase/upgrade to CS3 Production soon) for long form work (Feature length), where I want to do a high end 10 bit final grade to the locked off pictures from Premiere. Appreciate any feedback.

If you're picture is locked then I wouldnt hesitate to import the entire PP project into AE. You'll get everything on seperate layers and could easily cc and then export to AVI from there. I dont know that this method is truly using the dynamic linking though.

Thanks for some feedback jdajda. After I upgrade, I will experiment with running a Premiere project and using Dynamic Link to CC each clip from AE, or alternatively, open the whole Premiere project in AE.

Is there any trick or process required to opening a Premiere project file in AE and having all media connect automatically?

Thanx Guys.
Unfortunately I don't have Adobe Production Suite. It seems that to work both in AE and PP and to obtain the best results one must have the entire Production Suite.

But tell me just one thing about using PP DVD Layout. How do u guys often burn the DVDs. Do u use PP DVD Layout or Encore DVD. What are the pros and cons.

I use Premiere when I just need something quick. It has some nice templates and you can even set a video as a background without too much trouble.

But Premiere just doesn't have the flexibility and functionality of Encore. No custom menu, no animation, no button mapping. For serious work I use Encore exclusively.

Does PP has the capability to auto reduce the movie quality and burn a lengthy movie as DVD that would not otherwise fit on a 4.7GB DVD??

For this is it necassary to have a an Adobe Media Encoder with a VBR setting?
By Default it has a CBR setting.

completely agreed. i dont think ive ever burned a disc out of PPRO. especially since now with dynamic link, you can link your PPRO timeline or AE comps to your encore project, so you dont even have to render out of PPRO an the import into encore. you just link the project to a Encore timeline, and produce your DVD from there meaning your only rendering once, straight to mpg2 from the scource materials. basically using dynamic link, you should only have to render once no matter what you are making.
