Switcher from Gl-1, extreme newbie, needs help

First of all, this forum has been a great education for me. You folks have a great community going and I've already learned a great deal.

Here's my problem: I took my shiny new DVX100A out of the box yesterday and CAN NOT MANAGE to switch it to VCR mode. It stays in Camera mode whether I press the camera/vcr button or not. This is driving me insane, because I'm so excited to view the test footage I've taken. And now I think I may have a defective camera.

My only hope is that, like my Canon Gl-1, the DVX has some kind of lock function that won't let me switch to VCR mode. Is there such a function with this camera, or is it defective?

Thanks much for any help!

There is no 'lock function' for this that I am aware of. What you might try to do though, is use the remote control to switch it over to vcr mode and see if it works then. At lest you could narrow it down the on-camera button vs the function itself. Just a thought.... let us know.

Remote -- good idea. It could FF and RW, allowing me to see the footage shot, but no switchover to VCR mode. Panasonic tech guy said, "Oh... now THAT's odd." He gave me a return authorization then and there. Alas, alas.

But hey -- thanks for your help!
