Swine Flu, Whos had/got it?

blehhh, feel better!

the Engineer that works closely with our classes is out with the Flu currently - I'm hoping it doesn't start an outbreak :\

I just saw a woman have a seizure and keel over face first after getting the H1N1 vaccine!

Yeah, I'm staying away from vaccines.. I'm sure you guys have seen the video about the cheerleader who got the flu shot and can't walk anymore.. unless it's backwards, or running? so wacky, and scary as hell.

Well, I had the shot and feel just fine. I have asthma so I can't take any chances, and I've been immunized before so I knew there was little risk of that. I'm pretty sure the woman has had seizures before as the people she was with knew what to do. Still, it was scary, she was sitting two seats away from me and I turned around to see her in mid fall. Couldn't do much but watch her hit the floor.

Wow, that's scary :\

I'm in no way at higher risk, so I don't really see the need. There's really been a breakout in my area either, with the exception of that engineer like I said. But, I'm not a fan of medication in general, especially not vaccines.

As I've been telling everyone I know who are getting whigged out about the vaccine... if what happened to that cheerleader was a 1 in a million chance as stated in the video, than 300 people in the US have that happen to them every year (and something about that video makes me think other things were going on with her and the numbers much really lower or we'd have heard more stories like that before). 30,000 people die of the flu every year. 60,000 die of Flu+Pneumonia. I'd rather take my chances with the shot.

That said, I've NEVER had the flu vaccine. I never get sick, am in fairly good health, and don't have any sort of complicating issues, so I don't see the point. The longest I've ever been sick was a fews years from a cold, so a day or two out from work from the flu really isn't a big deal to me. Especially when there are others who need the shot more than I do.

I rarely get sick myself. Maybe a cold every once in awhile, but nothing that's kept me out of work. It seems like the vaccine is hard to get anyway.

Something tells me that was her reaction to getting a needle.. and not being injected with a dead flu virus..

Of course if it was from the flu itself.. makes you wonder what happens to her when she gets the regular old flu..

Also, if the concern is that it was rushed, the media is just pushing panic.

Fact is they've been making new vaccines for new strains for viruses every year for the past 15 years or more. While it is rushed, the method for creating these new vaccines quickly and effectively has been around for a long time. If the media wasn't pushing this thing in the spotlight so much it would have been incorporated into the regular vaccine given out every year and no one would have noticed anything different.

I may be getting it. I have a mild case of asthma. But I'm going to wait as there are people at higher risk. Plus here in Canada at least we're having a major shortage of vaccines.

Had it, no big deal... It's like a shity movie that's over rated, no need for the vac's unless your 3 years old, non of my doctor friends will ever get the vac's btw.

Can't believe how many people are worried about it, more die 300x from the common flu.

Some say the Swine Flu was an elaborate attempt to distract us from the state of the economy. :-). Whag the Dog kind of a thing...

I haven't had the swine flu, but I once ate so much bacon that I wanted to puke. Does that count?

*Lysol, Lysol wipes (on door knobs, refrigerator handles, remote controls, keyboards, etc... and wash your hands all throughout the day. I usually only get some kind of flu on average... maybe once every 4-5 years...

Google "adjuvants" prior to taking that H1N1 flu shot.

Actually here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Immunologic_adjuvant

Vaccines are better for high risk groups like kids and people of 65 or someone working in the healthcare system.

My doc didn't give me the "swine flu" shot. Said I didn't need it, since it was pretty much only badly affecting the middle group, not the younguns or oldsters. He won't give it to anyone over 50.

(Got the 'regular' flu shot, though.)

Um yeah... dit-friggin-toe... couldn't agree more. People really like to frenzy don't they? I'll bet there's a committee that decides what to name these things for just the right amount of "snap".

Mitchell: Okay everybody, we're going to call this year's flu strain... "the tasmanian devil flu".

*harumph... harumph... grobble... grobble*

Committee Head (smacking gavel): *BAM BAM BAM* Order!... Orderrr!... Mitchell, do you honestly want to start a global riot for the vaccine? Do your homework man! The world economy isn't THAT bad...

Mitchell: Well then... how about "swine flu"... it's catchy, sounds gross and unclean... like sweaty, muddy pigs. Plus in two years we can do the bovine flu?

Committee Head: Okay, that's good... "swine flu" it is... next order of business... does anyone have an ideas for naming the vaccine? Something scientific... not simply "swine flu vaccine" or people will still think of those disgusting sweaty pics and think we're shooting 'em up with pig sweat.

Mitchell: How about "the p32 flu modulator"...?

Committee Head: I'm done with you Mitchell... you can kiss-off the TV in the break room...

I had it. I was in bed for 3 days. Many people have gotten it and they simply don't realize that they had it, since the symptoms are basically the same as the flu. I am one who NEVER gets sick, so I was surprised that I got it. It's no big deal, though.

Until we stop playing frankenstein with the animals that are prepared to be food, we will see an increase in the quantity and severity of these illnesses and diseases. You mess with nature, and it will eventually rebel.

What ever happened to the monkey pox outbreak several years back?

Sounds like people aren't talking care of their animals. :)

YOU TOO?! I think this must be a bacon conspiracy...most likely aluminum salts and other various adjuvants being injected into our brains through bacon intermediaries so that we pick up the radio waves....break out the tin foil boys, it's time for info wars.
