Found some cheap new shotgun mics on ebay from Hong Kong, for ~€17
They dont give a name just "14.37" Professional Camcorder Shotgun Mic Microphone"

User rating seems very good and they dont mention hidden charges or schemes in their terms and conditons.

So would bargain like these be scams or can they be trusted?

They probably are not really scams, but just very cheap microphones that don't perform very well. You would be better off getting a microphone that has had reviews and a trusted name brand.

Best,
Andy

YEP, its going to end up costing you more in the long run. Remember sound is what makes the image . If your trying to save a few bucks. The cheapest mic i would recommend is a Rode videomic. For sound always always invest well.

I think I bought one that your talking about, I tested it out, it picks up low better then high, but you can "fix it in post" lol.
I just used a high pass filter and sounded normal.
They have many listings, and they all come out to be about 50$ after shipping.
So it will be 50$ with free shipping, or 25$ with 25$ shipping or 10$ with 40$ shipping.
They also have different smalelr model and the company that makes them actually lookes legit when I googled them, they make alot of audio stuff.

If you have 50$ to spare on a mic that can be your last chance emergency mic or a mic you wouldnt mind being put in a harmfull place go for it.

I saw those model on ebay too. the guy listed for professional sony, panny, canon camera. looks like any other cheap knock-offs from hongkong. I'll see if I can purchase one to test it w/ the NTG-2.

NTG-2 by Rode kinda sux, too. I wasnt sure why the guy use single-strand wires instead of multi-strand copper wires.

I'd agree with the above posters. Audio...good audio is arguably more important than than good video. Don't throw away your money buying an uncertain or dubious microphones. China is famous for making something "look like" something that has much higher value but does not perform because of cheap internal components.

some cheapos perform ok. octavia from russia made some good ones if you were lucky and also chinese stuff can be good if youre lucky. I bought 2 giant chinese ribbon mics from a swedish reseller and they are very good for the price ( around 200$). its more likely to get so called "monday" models though, so you have to look who you buy from. some resellers test the stufff before and make sure the monday models return to china :-) I definately wouldnt buy directly from china!!!
