Survey: HVX200 Firmware upgrade in the future? Do you want it?

This thread is not to put blame on the HVX200, Panasonic or to do any flaming of any sort; it's a Survey for professionals.

It's obvious the HVX200 is doing a whole ton " AMAZING " features in a small size professional HD camera. They have squeezed quite a lot inside.

Anyone who uses software or plays video games knows that you can't catch all the issues in V 1.0. After a few months, weeks or even days of user feed back they collect the errors and do updates.

Well the HVX200 is software driven. The HVX200 was going through revs 1-2-3 & 4 was less than a month before the street date.

What if there was a 4.01 or 5 rev in a month or so offered to HVX200 owners. If Panasonic was willing to offer a few software upgrades over the next few months as our feed back is posted; would you feel more comfortable about buying the HVX200 today instead of a few months from now or longer?

That's the question:

My answer to this Survey is, YES.

If I knew that we could get the SW updates for a short while over time; I would 100% have no problem in putting trust in a HVX200 purchase today. I believe in the camera. I thinks it's awesome. But you can't get all the bugs out until it gets a few months in the field as a fully shipping 100% model and professional users start reporting their findings. This is not a basic small size video camera.

It's a small size Professional HD Camera with a lot of features and functions all interacting inside with one another.

Awesome! I never saw this post. On the Varicam we did SW updates. If they are offering this, that is great. Has Jan commented on this?

Thanks redindian!

I would want it but I doubt Panny would do it unless there was a major issue with it. The logistics and cost of getting everyone updated might be prohibitive. It could require special hardware just to do the mem flash. Issues needing addressing will be pushed out to the 'A' model.

The digital camera makers (Nikon, etc.) have been doing this for a few years now. They simply put the firmware file on a website and provide instructions on how to load the new firmware. 'Course the update capability has to be engineered into the camera.

I just noticed (as others have already posted), the newly posted HVX200 manual talks about update 'drivers' in the camera via SD memory. As someone else has already asked, does 'drivers' equate to 'firmware'?

Thanks, I hadn't seen the manual. It's certainly within their power to put that type of support in. Hopefully they did.

MAYBE A GOOD IDEA!

Just because the camera is capable of doing it doesn't mean Panasonic will actually follow through with upgrades. We'll see what the future has in store..

Either way, pretty cool that the option is even available..
