GH4 Surprise for GH4 owners

Hehe, I called that there will be no RAW etc.
So Im not dissapointed at all. In fact Im very happy for the ability to mark down special parts in video.

I think the 4K photo mode might be cool for anamorphic users as you can shoot video in 4.3 mode. But no LOG or updated compression on the video codec is a bit of a disappointment.

NEVER TRUST A RUMOR!!!

"Once selecting the 4K Photo Mode, recording format, picture quality setting, brightness level are automatically set to the optimum parameter for photo shooting. Users can record high quality video either in 4:3, 3:2 or even 1:1 aspect, in addition to 16:9, all which can provide a still image with 8-megapixel equivalent resolution."

Hmm, since we can already take pictures from the regular 4K modes, I wonder if this new 4K photo mode records in 4608x2592?
That would be boss.

Well it says the still frame contained is 8mp so i'm guessing not, but who knows how it will crop the sensor in 4:3? It would be cool if it could take the entire readout of the sensor and make that video. Might need some higher compression ratios for that though!

This whole situation has made me realize how much I want 10bit 422 in a form factor such as the GH4. The HPX250 produces fantastic images that you can really push around in post, and I was excited at the prospect of having this in the GH4. Maybe there's just "no going back" to 8bit?

I gotta tell you honestly the average person (and this includes clients) doesn´t know the difference between 8bit and 10bit. And they don´t care as long as the image is nice.

What's the bit-depth and frame rate of 4K photo-mode ?

...It really looks like this firmware upgrade was for photographers. ( i.e. computer-tethering and 4K photo-mode )

Is the Atomos Shogun going to be shown at Photokina ? ( hoping for something significant for video shooters )

Atomos posted that a firmware upgrade that would fix the 50/60i issues with the gh4's HDMI output would be announced at an upcoming event - I don't doubt that firmware upgrade is coming, just maybe not this trade fair.

"Other changes include adjustable flash output and greater control over ISO."

Oh and also the ISO control probably applies to photo modes only?
I was hoping for the ability to choose ISO 100 for video recording.

Yeah, I would have bought this if 4:2: 2 internal. Bad rumor. The photo thing is a gimmick, that's all.

It is not a gimmick for people who also shoot weddings etc. You can give them video of the event and also full quality pictures. Both at the same time. This means they don´t have to hire a photographer AND a cameraman. So more work and money for the GH4 shooter.

I knew that already but wanted an easier internal option. The gh4 is a great camera, but I can now wait for the Gh5 and either get that, or the (then) reduced priced Gh4. I just don't have an urgent need to own this camera now.
I think the announcement could've been made at any time and didn't deserve all of the hype they built.
