GH5 (Supposedly) GH5s specs leaked.

Tech Radar accidentally posted a story then pulled it...

"You can record both Full HD and 4K video for as long as you want – there's no time limit, while the Lumix GH5S complies with 4K HDR video with Hybrid Log Gamma (HLG) mode in Photo Style. The GH5S also records 4:2:2 10-bit 400Mbps All-Intra in 4K (at 30p/25p/24p) and Cinema 4K (24p) and 200Mbps All-Intra in Full HD. "

No time limit of course and vlog is no extra charge.

"The autofocus system has also been tweaked over the GH5. The 225-area AF arrangement stays the same, but the GH5S can now focus in light levels as low as -5EV (on the GH5 it's -4EV). "

Perhaps not an issue for most but the removal of IBIS makes the camera a no go for me. True shame for my work as I could benefit heavily from the upgraded low light performance. Looks like I'm getting another GH5 instead.

Go on ebay and get a cheap small steadicam rig. Problem solved.

If IBIS has been removed I would guess this was a bid to support sales of Panasonic lenes with IS. Maybe there is a technical challenge involved as well but slowing down sales of other brands of lenses is not a negative thing...unless people skip the camera entirely. I know I was looking at the Oly 12-40 f2.8 because IBIS had the stabilization covered. Now I would go for the Panny lens

I go handheld too often and already have a Moza Air. Handheld has a different quality to it and much of the wobbles are removed with IBIS. I remember using the C100 MKI and MKII handheld and it worked but I feel like the motion doesn't become a distraction now on the GH5. Pretty undecided but might just go the route of another GH5. There are select times when I just can light and I have to go back to the MKII for low light which isn't ideal.

We'll know soon enough on the IBIS, but if it is missing, the choice between the GH5 and GH5s is going to be a difficult one for many potential customers. Surely Panny is aware of what a lauded feature this is, and would have only omitted it if necessary.

For me personally, if the color is good on the GH5s, and there is no IBIS, I'm going to be SERIOUSLY torn. I can use better low light than the GH5...let's be honest, the GH5 is still noisy in shadows even when properly exposed at relatively low ISO's...but I don't need crazy "night for day" Sony style low-light.

It is really about tradeoffs and needs. I have a friend who shoots corporate, sports and product videos on a weekly basis and he finds the IBIS rather pointless. 99% of the time he is on a tripod, slider or crane like most of us have been for decades shooting video. IBIS is a rather new thing and while a very nice to have feature it also isn't a life or death feature. There are oodles of solutions to get a sturdy shot with minimal effort.

Clean higher ISO is a much larger issue for some shooters and those that need it would sacrifice IBIS in a heartbeat to get overall better looking material. When he has to shoot a seminar from the back of a ballroom there is only so much he can do about the lighting and since he absolutely always shoots those with a tripod and zoom lens the extra ISO range is extremely welcome. There are very limited option in those situations whereas even the most jacked up shooting situation could use some level fo support system. I have used a $35.00 shoulder brace that likely yields as good of results as IBIS does with just a tiny bit of extra care. Takes seconds to put on and I have shot a lot of run&gun type stuff with it.

IBIS is extremely nice but in terms of ROI on replacing impossible situations it has less value than sensitivity.

Others will have different use cases but even for myself the only time stabilization mattered with the lenses I use is when I am on vacation. I wouldn't be caught dead on a paid project without an army of support system tools. I have invested more in the past two years in support gadgets than any other gear.

My guess is with this new multi AR sensor, Panasonic would have to design a larger IBIS system. And since this is a niche camera, that would not be cost effective.
OR they are still working on it and in a year we will see a GH5S mark II just like we did with the A7S. :)

As someone else stated, handheld is a unique look, different from gimbal, or steadicam or anything else. You can't get that immediacy any other way. Good IBIS doesn't turn your camera into a gimbal, it turns it into a MUCH better handheld device.

If the rumor is true, then this is gonna make for a tough decision. The GH5's IBIS was it's stealth killer feature. I didn't think I would care about it, but now after using it and relying on it, it will be a bitter pill to give it up, because like I said I don't need huge gains in low light, just enough to make shooting under indoor practicals without a speedbooster and wide open apertures more realistic.
