Support your local Panasonic dealer!

I was in the market for a HMC150. I decided to call my local dealer just to
check their price before I ordered online. They had a HMC150 that was an open box.
One of the local TV stations ordered the camera thinking it was a P2 camera. So
brand new camera with three year warranty for less than mail order price, and no wait!
You may want to make that call before you buy!

Maybe a silly question, but how do you find a local dealer? It seems that every time I check they're all located in the north-east around Philly and New York, plus a few other select cities.

Use more generic search terms for equipment but specifics for the area you are in. Not all local dealers will have great google indexing on specific products.

Go to the Panasonic site, look up the "how to buy" tab, and type in your zipcode. It'll show you the three dealers closest to you.

my HVX was a super deal from a local panny dealer: it had been used in the chinese olympics and had 50 hrs on the meter.....I totally agree on checking your local dealer.

Not so great an option if you live in Canada. Local retail is almost double US price. (plus hard to find a local dealer anyway!) I bought mine from Full Compasss and still had a Canadain warranty when I registered the camera. Must be nice to have local retailers..

The Panasonic Dealer that is local to me is notorious for obscene mark-ups. But I did check them first, before realizing that a big store in New York was always going to beat them in service and price. The business I work for tried to get bids from this local shop- only to be ignored or put-off at every turn. So we bought 3 AG-HPX370 cameras and panel monitors and remotes from the New York guys. You would think a purchase like that would be important to the local guys- but they don't return calls and e-mails. Do I want to support local shops-yes. But I can't afford to blindly do so. I guess the long story-short version is just do your due diligence.

Yes, definitely support local dealers who earn the business. But don't support ridiculous behavior like that, whether they're local or not! I'm surprised that a place that conducts themselves like that can still be in business, in this internet-connected age. There are excellent dealers out there who provide excellent service, and they should be supported.
