Super8 meets SGPro

Hello there,

almost half a year ago I attached my sgpro to my beaulieu super8 camera and shot some fun stuff. Here on dvxuser I later read about someone with the same idea, but a 16mm camera, check out there posts here.

Anyways, here's the link to the vimeo video, please let me know what you think!

Best,
Max.

This is how my setup looks like.
People gave me that awkward look when seeing me coming around.

very nice footage man...really good....
and the music...which is this music...??

nice man...i'' going to have a brevis soon...

and this christmas , my uncle did give me as a gift , an old super8 projector , and he said he have the camera to , and will give me to...

got to try this...

Thanks for your comments :)

The music is Morcheeba - Be yourself.
It's definitely woth experimenting, for me it's a whole new look which I think can't really produced digitally. At least I can't :)

Wow dude, excellent, but think about trying it with a grainless adapter to limit resolution loss as much as possible. SGblade with the new GG would be perfect. Of course Vimeo added a little degradation, but the only limit you have now is resolution so that would be the focus area if you get to invest more or tinker further... maybe buy a new GG and try performing an operation on the SGpro yourself. Don't tell wayne I suggested that or he might not sell me an adapter :)

Thanks for the feedback guys! I really appreciate it, it's a nice reward for the efforts

Somewhere else someone was confused about why I did this, let me explain:

There is a unique look to super8 that is just so... super8
The colors, the vignetting, the grain, the variable framerate, wobbling frame, the softness, dynamic range, ... many things that a truely retro, and can't be reproduced in a digital way.

One thing I've been a little sad about is the look of super8 concerning DOF. Of course that's super8 as well, but here's when some experimenting comes in: Why not combine the true analog nature of super8 film with the nice DOF of an adapter?

So I shot 0835.

It's an experiment after all, but in my opinion, it's something rather new - look-wise (even if it's not really innovative).
But you have to judge for yourself if that experiment is any good for you or not.

Thanks for the advice how this look can be further developed. I will dig into that and you are all invited to get onboard :)

I am thinking that any of the sharper adapters would do, the LEX, SGblade or the exorbitantly expensive Letus Ultimate. Not that the SGpro isn't sharp, but you get my point.

Perhaps also try shooting lower ISO film..? Those adapters are also faster so it could compensate for a lower ISO.

Super cool stuff man.

very cool , inspired me. i'm waiting my super8 camera...and i'll send it to have a clean. I spend lot of time reading about super8 , and i was very excited to shoot super8...

and this inspired me a lot...
look awesome...

The 64T is the lowest I can go, I used to own some K40 material, but I got rid of it, since it's very expensive to get it developed here in Germany.
Or am I missing something here?

No, you must not be... I have no clue about what film stock exists. It was just an idea, and you seem to be on top of it.

Thanks guys, a 8/16mm has gained interest in it, we will see.
I will definitely have to shoot a complete music video with it...

16mm would be sweet, but probably wouldn't need to use the adapter every time. Though I'd love to see that. Are you planning on using 16mm like this? S16?

Haha, sorry, spelling mistake/ I missed a word.
Same as you: I don't think it makes sense shooting like that on 16/s16 there is not just so much look that would justify all the disadvantiges of that system...

The word I missed was: magazine... a 8/16 mm magazine has gained interest on that, that's what I meant :)
