Super Slow Motion (60+ fps) is amazing... Are there any alternatives?

For two new businesses I am planning to start up within the next months, we will start to work a lot for 'normal people'.

- We will try to get a share of the wedding market
- Other idea relies on the opinion of people as well

No matter if you like it or not, super slow motion simply amazes people and blows them away. It has the 'wow' factor. I believe this will be a benefit for our business if we adopt to these possibilities early. These businesses rely for a good share on promotion by word of mouth.

I have came across the NEX FS700 and as you know this camera shoots 1080p up until 240 fps. That is awesome and definitely has the 'wow factor'.

This is the first 'prosumer' priced camera that actually can to this, right? And thats why I am scared to save up some money and jump on this wagon just yet... Because it has its' flaws and probably something better is around the corner, as other manufacturers now have to respond.

- 24 mbit rate
- Not looking as 'filmic' as the C300
- Price (its a good price, but competition might act soon and gets lower)

So what do you guys think? Will there be any other 1080p super slow motion camera available anytime soon? Or is the FS 700 the way to go?

FS700 is the way to go. Even the RED @ 300fps has its flaws, like the aspect ratio. No one else seems to be reacting. Go for Sony I say.

I also look forward to get one in near future... so far there weren't any rumors of another camera with specs similar to the fs700... I'd go for it...

The problem is, is that this would be the most expensive investment I will have done so far in my young career and that I know that in 2-3 years there will be something on the market that blows it away... I know, this is the case with most electronic devices... But this one in particulair, being the first 'prosumer' slow motion camera on the market with only a bit rate of 24 and the such.

With the rates I can ask from the businesses that actually benefit from this camera, it will take a long time before the investment will start to pay off...

But damn, 240 fps is slick

sure there will be the next camera which blows the fs700 away - thats the issue everybody has in our business.. The only other option is to keep your current camera as long as you can, and rent the big ones if needed.

Do the math, how much do you think you can make in extra thanks to this camera, then if you are able to pay the camera back in 1 or 2 years max, then if might be interesting. Otherwise renting is the way to go.

Also, is the camera good enough to invest in for the 'normal' speed recordings as well. It looks great to me, but sometimes it looks like the resolution may not be optimal as well... Maybe its because of my 2560x1440 monitor. I prefer the look of the c300 for normal speed videos. It would be a bummer if in 6 months a camera comes out that has the look of the C300 and offers 240 fps in 1080p which is in the fs-700 price range.

In general, yes. Not for me if I decide to take the plunge on this one

I just found out this camera is for rent for around 120 euro per day (VAT excluded). Thats actually okay. Its an hour drive to the nearest place though, but for the beginning a good option I guess.

It is 'the slow motion' sells in wedding business, not the 240p. 60p slow motion is pretty much all one needs.

FS700 is a bit overkill for a startup wedding business. Better invest in a multi camera NEX50 or VG30 (or VG900) in your case; because:
-Any of these 3 is perfectly good enough for pro wedding videos.
-There is nothing around the corner that would significantly reduce the value of any of these.
-With the money saved you could invest into peripherals(better cameraman & equipment & post)

FS700 more suitable for multi-purpose video/film productions who may utilize the 4K option when/if needs to be.
