Super Moon Test between HvX200 and Canon 60D

As promised my test that I talked about in a previous post. I did not purchase the 60D, I had it for the weekend from a friend that let me borrow it. I've been thinking about purchasing a DSLR and wanted to see what it would look like.

Maybe the 60D is not the camera of choice? I was not very impressed over all. Could it be the Tamron 5.6 lenses? I had everything wide open and it still under performed against the HVX200.

Would love to get the community take on this camera and my test. The image of the 60D is very soft, that is the best focus I could get on it.

I'm considering the GH2, but concerned about not being able to shoot 72024P, I want to be able to shoot a two camera shoot with my HXV200.

Looking forward to a good discussion.

get a 170 OR 200a. They both do better in low light then the 200. The 170 is a little pricy new, but does come with a 5 year warranty. The 200a can be found for a decent price used on ebay.

Your correct when you say maybe it was the lens. Although the hvx can do things the 60d will never be able to do. Buy when it comes to low light, there's no comparison. It's all in the glass. If you had a lens that was 1.4, you would have seen an incredible difference between the two. Now im not saying a dslr is in any way better than a camcorder. The hvx will give you the ability to do more types of work than say the 60d. But each is a tool with specific strengthes. A combo would be ideal, 60d for low light, shallow dof, and hvx for event, and everything else. Not to mention the hvx is 4:2:2. which is twice the color of the 60d.

Im of the mind set, that i would not have a dslr unless I already had a proper camcorder. * unless, I only did narrative work.

It's funny you mentioned what you guys did. I am leaning towards maybe getting another HVX200A, I've used the A and it was quite a difference in less noise and better in low light. If I had the money, I'd be buying the AF100. I will continue to listen and read before I make a decision.
Thanks for the response. I look forward to more.

You didn't mention the focal length of the Tamron, but IMHO, Tamron glass would be considered second tier. You would probably see a huge difference with Canon L series glass. Not knocking the value of Tamron, but L series it isn't.
