GH4 Super fast turn around setting, tips and tricks plz...

I have a gig coming up where I will have to shoot some interviews and b-roll, edit a string-out (possibly with lower 3rd and or a bug)
and upload it before the event is over... and make it available to local news affiliates. I'll be shooting on a GH4 and editing on Premiere
pro CC newest version.

So I'm wondering who has experience and can offer any tips, settings ideas and so on. Obviously I'll shoot 29.97. I did a few tests
for rendering / exporting and it seems that 1920x1080 size at 29.97 @ 200 All-I was more than twice as fast as 4K.

I got an SSD drive to speed up that.

I'm pre building and rendering slates and so on.

Any ideas to help speed me up? Better to export at certain setting then StreamClip it... that sort of thing.

Would an external recorder in prores or dnxhd speed things up, that's about all I can think of to speed it up.

I don't see any reason to be shooting at 200 Mbps on the GH4. In most cases it looks worse than 100 Mbps and chews through cards faster. I also think 200 Mbps is more prone to moire.

I just tested Vegas for render times on a series of 10 seconds clips with the different recording formats. I'm getting the following render times with cineV all zero's 16-235 with no luts applied -

4K 30p to 1080-30p = 18 seconds
4K 24p to 1080-24p = 16 seconds (not useful for your application, but just wanted to know)
1080-60p 100mbps to 1080-30p = 16 seconds
1080-30p 50mbps to 1080-30p = 15 seconds

If you are getting render times that are twice as long in 4K with Premiere there is something seriously wrong. To me render times less than double real time is incredible for 4K.

Also, I can't imagine not shooting 4K to save a couple minutes. The ability to do crops between cuts in post for interview type scenes is invaluable IMHO. Every time you have to cut a scene you crop in or out a bit to make it look like a two camera interview scene. My favorite covers all the bases recording format is 1080-60p as it creates a great image and can be slowed down for a bit of a slow motion effect. Then hit 4K 30p for interview type scenes and you can blast straight to post with the 16-236 cineV profile

If you get it sorted it would be cool to see how it worked out. Make sure you practice that complete workflow a few times before you go out to do it. Working under the gun like that would definitely be nerve wracking :)

homerc76 - Yes - 100Mbps not 200... guess I thought the All-I would render / export faster... tests prove otherwise.

c3hammer - I cant imagine not shooting 4K either... Love the pan / scan / cop abilities and can't remember the last time I shot 1080 other than slo-mo. But I really do have very limited time - like 70 minutes - to get a string out, so every second counts. And who knows what the upload speeds will be. Might be my phone as a 4G hotspot, but hoping the venue has fast wi-fi. Not really needing to cut a scene, just giving local news some red carpet
and event footage with a few quotes from a few of the attendees.

Do others here think there is something seriously wrong with render times that long for 4K vs HD?

Thanks!
