Super cheep Af100's floating around :)

With the NAB coming soon, the GH4 announcement as well as the many other amazing tech on the horizon, plus the BMPC and other cheep cameras the AF100 seems to be an increasing bargain on the second hand market.

We have several cameras including the BMC, gh2 and EX3 and there are some amazing cameras on the way but our wee AF100 is still getting a regular work out. Its just so light, fast, n easy to use. With the prices dropping though we couldn't help picking up a bargain. We got a 2nd hand AF100 with 3 batteries n only 300 hours on it for $1200 AU!

I swear if anyone is getting into the film making world the wee AF100 is going to be the cheep, brilliant find for people looking for a proper camera. So cheep, so capable :)

Anyway just sharing our good fortune :)

Crazy how much cams depreciate. I still love my AF100, but it's the last cam I'll buy. Everything else I'll just rent :)

I still think the AF100 is a gem. We recently did this:
Shot it in a day n a half. Af100 made it real easy. Most of it was on the 14-140 lens as well.

Nice work Jackson. I just love the lazy leisurely pace- very well done.
We have some great scenery here in NZ too- how lucky are we! I don't do too much scenic stuff but have just completed a vineyard promotion for Domain Road vineyard here in central Otago. It has a similar lazy flow ( which is what the client asked for.) Its on my homepage of www.voxvideoproductions.co.nz if you would like a quick look. Great work.
Cheers!

Thanks Rod,
I like your work. What lens did you use for the smooth zooms?
Hi Jackson, If you are talking about the vineyard, most of the outdoor stuff was shot on my 160A. I chose this because of the massive zoom range of this lens and being about 300km from home, no chance to recce so I knew I was going to be in some unfamiliar and wide open spaces. A question of the right tool for the job- that's why we have lots of toys- I mean tools!- what I would have given to have a quadcopter and gopro as well on this one! maybe next time.
Cheers!

I just bought a used one(130 hr) with a 14.140 .... Both in excellent condition....for $1950.
I really didn't know what kind of bargain I got until I watched some of the footage...like ..'Snow' etc.

I really like the look of this camera's translation....I would take it any day over...
cleaner and yet some how ... slightly 'zombie' looking images that have motion.
It may sound odd...but I've seen a lot of very clean lifeless looking native footage...

I'm guessing everyone has...

Cheers,

Tye

Bought one NIB (w/USA Warranty) last night on eBay for $1820 with free shipping.

I forgot to say that the seller included the AG-SFU100G Software Upgrade free.
(arrived yesterday . . . I'm still pinching myself).

I agree, the AF100 and AF100A are overlooked professional quality, easy to use camcorders. I don't know if Panny will bring out a AF200 with the latest chip, codexs, upgrades, just don't think it will happen and if it does I will probably pull the trigger on one, but in the interim, I have just order my second AF100A from Texas Media, it was 2495, 13 hours and in the box. Can't wait to team it up with my other Pannies.

I'll be getting another one - UK prices are around £1500 mark,
IMHO Panasonic would have announced AF200 already alongside the rest of the new cams if it was coming

I fear that this may be true. I've held out on buying a new camera because I like my AF100 so much. I'm going to upgrade this year. I think it will be an awful shame if there's nothing forthcoming from Panasonic between the GH4 and the Varicam in the owner/operator digital cinema line. It's hard to imagine. Even if they did announce at NAB delivery would be a year or more off, right? Unless they're able to keep a secret ;)

What cam in the AF100 price range (under $5k) is the hottest or most popular now? I stopped keeping track once I bought my AF100 a couple years ago.

I recently got one with 160h from another dvxuser (ade4all) for £1200 and I'm happy with it. Coming from the HPX171, I'm still getting used to the "lack" of some ENG features, but it's still a great camera.

Jackson, congrats for the commercial, I like the look a lot. Do you remember what scene settings were you using for that?

Hey Charlierubi, I used...

detail -2
v detail -2
corring -3
chroma -4
drs 1
gamma cine v
Matrix norm 2

its my go to scene file. Got it of Eric naso then adjusted a wee bit. I find it's the best most of the time. If I have more control of the environment I will use bpress and remove drs and lower the detail to -4 and corring to -5 but not all ways, depends on what I'm shooting. Hope thats helpful

Hey guys, I am a current DVX-100 user and have been trolling Ebay looking to upgrade to an AF100. There are a ton of great deals but my question is this, how many hours is "too many" for the money. I saw the first post in this thread saying that he bought one with around 300 hours. I understand that this is a bit different than looking at hours on a DVX given that there is no transport system or tape heads to wear down. I'm curious to what everyone thinks on this issue. Thanks in advance!
