Super Boring Home Made 35mm Adapter

A lot of dirt got on my intermediate screen, but my macros finally arrived so here's the latest. The compression kills it, but still--check it out. This was super easy to make and I'm going to make a final version as soon as I figure some logistics out.

The cost is about 30 bucks now but the footage is much, much worse than it has the potential to be.

The glass will be super clean for the final version...I think. It doens't really matter though since this is a stupid project.

Still, check it out!

If you saw what the adapter looked like, you wouldn't give me 50 cents....but yeah, it's pretty cool and I'm going to try to spend about 20 dollars more and make a more permanent adapter with a secure lens mount and stuff. (This one is made of a cardboard box!)

I like the look of the dust, too, actually, although it's only dusty since I put it in a dusty place over the weekend and the focusing screen attracts dust.

My dad's a good guy: generally supportive of my interests and pretty easy going 99% of the time. The "interview" is about 5 times this length and way more inane but I had to cut it way down for obvious reasons.

was just trying to play the joke of your subject line, that's all.
i did see you rack focusing and I was thinking if you were trying to get a sharper image, but the it probably doesn't get sharper then that does it? it seems to be a difficult situation with home made 35mm adapters. unless you want that soft look.

It doesn't get much sharper (everything was a tad OOF) but it CAN get get sharper. The issue is this:

The 35mm lens must be in focus and it has a very shallow DOF.
The intermediate screen must be lined up perfectly parallel to the lens and be in approximately (with a few millimeters of) the right place (exactly the right place if you want to be able to focus to infinity).
The dvx must be focused exactly on the screen and my super cheap macro lens softens it.

I'm not sure how far I'll go with it, but you can expect a final version to be sharper....but, yes, tolerances of home made stuff do make it hard to make a sharp adapter.

Look at the later part where the box is in focus, and you can see that the detail isn't that bad (though it's pretty bad anyhow.)
