Lately, I've done a lot of Super 8 Shooting. My most recent project has been to push this small-gauge medium to its limits. This is what I've come up with:

Please Download the high Quality H.264 Quicktime source file here. Be sure you are logged into Vimeo to be able to access the file.

Project Details:
Format: Max 8 (Super Duper 8)
Aspect Ratio: 2.35:1
Camera: Beaulieu 5008s Multispeed, modified to shoot in the Max 8 format
Lenses: Fujinon 16mm F/1.4, 1.5 Megapixel Lens (CCTV); Anamorphot 16/32/1.5x Bolex/Möller Anamorphic Lens

Film:
Kodak Vision2 50D (5201) from Pro8mm

Lab:
Pro8mm, Burbank, CA

Scan:
Millenium M2, 1080p24 to ProRes 422 Codec

Edit:
Final Cut Pro 6, ProRes 422 23.976 Timeline

Post Processing:
Neat Video Denoise Plugin Via Final Cut Pro 6
Anamorphic De-Squeeze via Adobe After Effects CS3
Sharpening via Adobe Photoshop CS3

I would call the test a Success, what do you think? Remember, this is Super 8; a medium designed for amateurs.

Hahaha, no problem:

Ah yes, there's something about making a film with film, no matter what the format. The main thing is to keep making stuff and having fun. Never shot any 8mm myself. Smallest film format I ever shot was 16mm.

Kyle, this is what I'm about! I have a dvx100 and am getting into the same thing. A friend shot this Super 8 footage, I hope it's ok if I can post it in your thread, it's another amazing eye opener.

Now, I have added up the money I have spent buying the latest greatest still digital cams and realized how much money I wasted from not shooting film. I'm new to Super 35mm but I think it's the same, I can spent $10K on a HD pro video cam or a used super 8 off eBay for $300 and buy lots of film.

Anyone else feel this way?

Maybe its just me,but looks like something out of the 80's.

And over $200 in film costs just for some test footage? Seems very expensive.

I think any medium is cool if you can tell a good story, so if you can, then its just as good as any other, but not sure what the fascination with spending the extra to achieve it.

I do like when people do it to achieve a certain look reminiscent of the genre they are portraying.

Like this piece Ringers that was shot on various film stocks to go along with the noir genre
