Seems interesting... if I knew what the hell was going on...

From the sound of the title, and the trailer, I wouldn't be surprised if this is some prequel to cloverfield (maybe the cloverfield 2 as has been rumored)... though I could be wrong... but I have a hunch seeing as it's super 8 and about a camera, and some sort of creature is coming out of the car...

Err, nevermind.

Though the journalist seems like a hack. He/she wrote "The director has confirmed 'Super 8' is unconnected to the 2008 sci-fi horror movie - despite a trailer seeming to show similar filming techniques and the presence of aliens." Cloverfield wasn't about aliens, nor is this shot in any way similar, note the sweeping crane shot?

BTW, is Speilberg only producing these days? Has he hung up his directors hat?

This project is supposed to by JJ's take on Spielberg's 70's-80's films, not a sequel, just inspired by the movies he made during that era. Some kids are shooting a Super 8 film in the desert and glimpse an alien creature when they develop their film.

That was a miserable trailer. The CG in War of the Worlds and Minority Report was way better than this and that was years ago already.

How was Cloverfield NOT about aliens??

Was it? Saw it once, don't remember something falling from the sky... thought they never explained the monster, always thought it was some toxic waste godzilla thing. Am I missing something or was it that unmemorable that I forgot?

In the home video at the end you see something falling from the sky and landing in the water.

that was a satellite....
That would be quite the coincidence. Crazy if they caught that on film.

Found this...

The Japanese oil company TAGRUATO drops a satellite (Chimpanz III) into the ocean as part of viral marketing (shown at the end of the movie when Rob and Beth were on the ferris wheel). TAGRUATO works with SLUSHO (a slush company), as the main ingredient for SLUSHO is found at the satellite dropzone (deep ocean). While searching for satellite and ingredients, they woke Cloverfield (the monster).

The main ingredient of Slusho apparently turns a tiny fish into a HUGE whale, which explains the size of Cloverfield.
Is this true? How the hell were we supposed to know that? I only saw it once but really?

I had read something like this a while back, but I never paid much attention to it as it seemed very convoluted.

But I'm with Chip on this, the thing I liked the best about that was that they just threw this little thing in there that you might miss, but which you can speculate on all day. I love stuff in movies like this that's not explained.

Me too.

Judging by what I saw in the movie. It fell from outer space and then attacked after it woke up after impact.

I'm sticking with that. :)

:)

Abrams is all about the transmedia though, so it doesn't surprise me that there would be a more complicated story out there.

But with this new movie, I just hope he has enough lens flares. Never have too many lens flares. :)

Just like the horrible CG in the first teaser for Cloverfield. These Teasers are made before they even have a finished script and/or crew and production money. They are just put out there to garner interest, and look what that did for Cloverfield (and its horrible CGI Statue of Liberty Head)

Ah, so that explains why a couple of early shots in the trailer are SO reminiscent of CE3K.

This looks like one I'll definitely check out.

J.J. released his version of the trailer today, it's not to much different. I can't find the link right now but I'm sure it already shows up on google.
