I've got this from dvinfo so don't ask me any questions. I'm not even sure if this is actually true or not but it sounds very cool.
"Hi,
We are a small team of engineers and photographers in Greece and I just got permission to give the community some info on a project we are working on. This is probably the right forum
It is an uncompressed camera using a single CCD sensor. We did try lots of CMOS options and found them unacceptable due to motion issues and low light performance.
It is fully uncompressed and records to very affordable media. The basic package allows 3 hours of recording on 600gr removable cartridge.
It records high quality sync sound and has excellent audio recording quality.
We have a workflow ready. The material can immediately be edited using any pc video editing application in color without any intermediate steps. The real time debayer quality is excellent (not bilinear or half res or anything other cameras in the same range do). The debayer also takes heavy color editing without artifacts (something AHD and VGN demosaicing variants have problems with). We do provide a half resolution debayer if you insist on editing on an old p4 and we also provide a black and white half res mode that does not debayer at all and allows extremely fast response.
We do not use compression and the debayer engine is highly optimised, so playback does not demand heavy cpu resources and only depends on hard disk drive performance which is cheap to achieve these days. So you will not need a high end pc just to see your video on normal frame rate.
The camera is a powerful functional video editing workstation by itself. It can be used to convert to other editing formats and directly connects to affordable SATA 5disk RAIDs or any other port multiplier solution.
Due to the optimised workflow, real time full resolution color multitrack editing is possible on a modern pc if the HDD system is capable. 2 tracks highest resolution are ok with a basic 2 disk raid0.
It is compatible with normal 16mm lenses (super16 not required) and 35mm lenses for the large sensors. We are very interested in those who use 16mm and want to switch to digital but are not satisfied with the image quality available on compressed solutions today.
We do extensive tests to achieve maximum pixel quality. We are not very interested in resolution if it is compromised with a mediocre debayer or low sensor image quality.
The user interface touchscreen is daylight readable and does not require a hood.
The camera has flexible photographic style controls for recording maximum dynamic range and excellent shadow detail. We focus on providing a real camera that allows an excellent image out of the camera.
We will provide extreme low light black and white versions at same cost with the color versions.
We intend to support selected no budget and student projects by providing equipment at extremely low cost.
The camera will probably cost less than 10,000 euro for the 1080p largest sensor model for a complete recording package including everything required to shoot. Most models will be similar in cost to good HDV.
We will produce an affordable telecine/film transfer model of the camera that works with triggering from the projection side.
We intent to keep the marketing low. We don't have much money to support it anyway. Engineering already eats our resources. We will produce actual measurements of the performance and tell anyone the actual engineering truth about its performance and how it compares to whatever the user might have used.
We are very enthusiastic about this project. Especially for its effects in the quality possible in low budget film shooting projects.
