Sunset shot

My first post! I've been watching this site for a long time. Lots of great info! Finally pick up my DVX100b last week. So far, so awesome!

One of my first projects will have a series of sunsets. I've found the perfect location, now just need to shoot it. I'm worried about damaging the camera by pointing it at the sun (even with the ND filters on). How do you know if bright is "too bright"? Any ideas on how to accomplish this? Purchase an additional ND filter?

Once again, GREAT SITE!

I don't think you can - this used to be a big deal with tube cameras as you could burn out a spot on the imaging tube and have to replace them, but I THINK you're ok with CCDs as long as your exposures aren't more than a second or so. Apparently, there is mroe risk from a small sun in frame than a large one, but as long as you control your exposures you should be fine.
