Hi,

I'm finally getting the O7Q!!! :))

Which in your opinion is the best sunhood?

What i dislike about the one from CD is that its not closed on the bottom...

Thanks.

Cheers

B&H offers another one in the accessories section if you look at that monitor. It costs more but goes all the way around.

I need one too.

Which one do people prefer? So far I found the Convergent Design Sun Hood and the Hoodman HCD7.

Wood the Porta Brace give enough sun protection, cause then there would also be weather ptrotection?!

I tried one that had an open bottom and can't recommend them. It didn't really help enough with reflections.

I have the Hoodman and it does the job, it's a bit akward to attach and the bottom slit doesn't really work as intended (it's as hard to use your fingers through the slit as it is by just poking your hand in.). It comes with a rain cover for the back though which is very nice to have when shooting in rain.

Portabrace one looks a bit more PRO judging by the pictures but also bigger... would love to hear user experiences on that one though.

If you don't like our three-sided one, the Hoodman or the PortaBrace, then there is also the solution from Olof at WestsideAV.

the problem with the 3sided one is, that there will be a lot of reflections...you really should built a professional one.
The hoodman should do its job, but from what I read its a pain to attach. Ill have a look at the WS AV.

Is overheating an issue with the porta brace?

update: just checked out the WS AV...seems to be way overpriced for what it is.

I use it for over one year and I am quite happy with it. I like the sturdy frame which protects the 7Q too. Worth every penny and great service from Olof. (your mileage may vary of course)

ok. thanks for sharing. I just find that it looked a bit fiddly on the pictures and nor really professional. And 150$ is
quite a price. But I havent tested it and miight be judging wrong.

you have to consider that the frame adds depth to the 7Q. It's not that slim anymore. Imho it's not made for daily mount / demount. But for me it works very well. It adds protection to the frame and sometime it's just enough and I don't need more shading. If you consider it buying get both the 8" plus 4" fabric hood. The 8" gives you 4 side shading but I found a lot of situations where the size is a handicap and the 4" 3-side protection is more handy.

in relation to the quality I find the hoodman over priced ;-)

I take issue with you labelling our 3-sided hood unprofessional. Be that as it may, it was designed knowing that there were other solutions on the market so we wished to provide options. You're free not to use it.

The Odyssey7Q+ does not run particularly hot so the PortaBrace is not a problem with the question of overheating.

I always just cut my own hoods from black coroplast and attach with velcro. The one I made for my 7Q/7Q+ doubles as a protective cover when the unit is not in use so I don't have to worry about the 7q when I put it in other sleeves that only provide soft protection and so I don't have to pack the hood separately somewhere. Coroplast is cheap and easy to cut and to replace and you can make it whatever size you want.
