Sun competing Led?

Wow... Thats one hell of a light. I love what Hive is doing its just not right for my end of the market. I've debated springing for a Bee to use with various octoboxes but its just out of reach.

It's a hell of a difficult shot to light: not only is the background so much brighter, but you can't even get your lights anywhere close

Yep I knew that was the wall I was going to hit.. hence going forward HMI rental. Not perfect but I pulled off the shot.

It does now occur to me that some form of boom arm could bring the lights closer and over..

Here is another shot with a single 1.2HMI through a 4.8 scrim camera right and the maverick giving a little hair fill camera left.

The windows are gone but at least not bleeding in to the room..

Seems to be a quality mismathc on the alan roberts scale.. 88 vs 97 one their website

http://www.gtc.org.uk/members-area/tlci-results/current-tlci-results.aspx

Looks like Alan Roberts is listing the LG-D1200 as 97 now just as they claim. LEDGO has been pretty good matching numbers over the years. This has me really interested in this light again as the quality seems to check out. I just want an LED fresnel for a keylight instead of the usual panel which I have. Looks pretty bright also.

I'm friends with a real master steadicam'er in Toronto - We are planning a 'steadicam day' with food, drinks, and probably good looking talent... are you interested?

email if so. you should have my email address still.

: End Off topic discussion :

Sorry Dennis I just noticed this. I'll fire you an email as I'd be very interested.

Why do LED ratings have to be so all over the place. For the LEDGO D1200 I've seen two ratings posted. If the 97 rating and graph is correct then its a purchase. If the 88 and graph is correct then its a pass. On the Alan Roberts TLCI site they originally listed 88 then have changed it to 97 without note of an error and the download files even say 88. So confusing.

For example the Filex (noisy and green/yellow!) are excellent (powerful and full specturm) to use in a slo-motion studio shoot

Morgan, Which Fiilex unit are you referring to? The M1? I am interested in the Fiilex M1, but not if it has a greenish output and is noisy.

Any opinion on the Nyla Varsa Daylight? I need a unit for doing standup out doors / live shots. Price-wise I am tempted to just go with a good ole' Joker 400.

I'd have to check my notes/pics - the filex was basically thier top model - just cos it is not 5500k tint 0 does not mean it is not full spectrum or close

A redhead is full spectrum but not 5600T00 it is more like 2800T00

Noise wise it has a fan that is clearly audible to my ears

Is there really nothing in the $1k USD range that can be a good single source replacement for a Tungsten 650w? Looking to build a battery-driven kit for way out locations.

What's wrong with the Aputure Lightstorm COB120? I don't own one, but the folks that do have confirmed that it has more power than a 650 tungsten. It is still missing the Fresnel lens, but that is supposed to be out in January.

It does often seem like the search for the holy grail... It appears anything that gets near (or allegedly above) that 650 / 1K range must include a fan to dissipate heat (which may or may not be as quiet as you hope).
Have been keeping an eye on a couple of new contenders ( but really need to see them first hand - not sure I believe the equivalencies given by company...
https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...ytech_173010_light_cannon_f_165_bi_color.html (and it's bigger brother - but no battery option for it) https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/prod...ytech_173014_light_cannon_f_485_bi_color.html
Also - Fiilex has a fairly new one too... this may be my next rental for when I need something similar to a small HMI:

Realistically, to get the most out of a sub-$1K light there's the new Hive tunable LED, the WASP 100w PAR.

To get the output you want at the highest efficiency (lowest draw per lumen), it's the original Hive plasma light, the WASP 275w.

These lights give great daylight performance and offer nice sharp beams that can be shaped well.

The Intellytech F485 sounds like an interesting lite with a 400w HMI par equivalence (The reflector really helps a par) as measured by users. I'm looking very close at this light.

Is it really 25lbs though?? A Joker 400 is apparently only about 10lbs including the ballast...

Yeah - I've backed two of the 100-C PAR's from Hive... love the multiple uses and ability to shape / control light with many modifiers & accessories. But still struggling with "will I have enough punch". Still looking for that one LED fresnel...
Not sure the poaching light is it.
