Suggestions needed for a sound effect

[Nexis]

I've got a script that calls for a telephone conversation. Does anyone have a suggestion for getting a "telephone" sound effect to dialogue (hardware or software...)?

TIA.

a simple eq will do the trick. or better yet. actually record it via telephone.

Use a software-based eq and drop out the low-end channels until you get the desired "tinny" sound. Check out http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ for a free audio-editing package that should help you out.

Thanks guys!

Also, I keep reading on the forums about a free plugin called "vinyl" that can
accomplish this easily.

I'm not sure if you use a PC or a Mac, but Kjaerhus Audio has some really nice free plugins in their Classic series if your NLE can acts as a VST host:

The phone company used to boost 2.5k.

Nice suggestion THoff; those Kjaerhus plug-ins are pretty sweet.
