Suggestions for a Macro Lens

Seen some shots recently taken with a Nikkor 40mm Macro which look really nice but DX what would you suggest for a D800?

Thanks

I have the 105 f/2.8 which is a great macro lens for really small things and it has VR. It also works great as a portrait lens at distance on a full frame camera. I have used it on both a D3s and D4 with great results. For macro, it helps to have a tripod, but can be hand held.

The Nikon 60mm AF-D Micro is relatively cheap ($250 on the used market) and is sharp enough for use on the D800 - Nikon 55mm AI is also a great and even less expensive option for macro work. I use a 45mm PC-E D now for more image control.

I had the 105mm AFS, it had a great image, BUT developed a focus problem , where the ring would stick and i couldnt manually focus it( cant use it for macro w/o manual focus) I sent it to nikon paid 350 to fix it. was never the same after that so i sold it.
I now have the old 105mm, built like a tank and image quality is awesome too got it for around 400 used.

They say the Zeiss 100 isn't really sharper than the Nikon 105, but has better contrast. I haven't tried the Zeiss so that's only what I've heard.
