Hello
i am buying a filed monito rfor my gh3, need mainy for focus. Now i have found 2 model , 1280x800, focus peaking, one is 5.6' the other 7'. They cost me the same. I' d lie to have am opinon on wht you woul choose. I never had one and can't test ny. To have an idea a cut two pieces of paper to understnd how big they are. To me 5.6 seems much suitable for a small camera like gh3, right size. On the other hand i don't know how is the differencein actually viewing the monitor. How worthy is to carry a bigger piece around
Wait your idea
Thanks!

Get the 5.6". I use the iPhone for focus with a cam-ranger on my dslr and that's really small. As long as its HD and not SD, you should be fine with it. Think Zacuto, DP4 etc.

I have a Neway 7" 1280x800 monitor and it is a little large for shoulder work but I wouldn't downsize for all of the tripod/monopod stuff. I personally find the DP4 too small unless used as an EVF and the resolution is very low but small HD shines with their firmware and customer support.

this is the other choice! what model you have, is it onewith peaking?tell me something about

I have the compact version. It has peaking (b/w with red outline) although i find with the high res and 7" I don't even use it. It has pixel to pixel, False Colour, Clip guids for over and under exposure and a few other features.

Do you have any specific questions? I can try and answer that way. If I get a moment I will take a picture to show you size comparison with GH3.

that is interesting the peaking. what i suppose with a 7' and pixel to pixel witha good ulity of video i might not need peaking. also how really effective is the peaking?
i say this as buying a monitor without peaking comeout even cheaper
so my question is. with a 7 and 1 to 1 peaking is not a nbeed anymore?
about size. you say it is trouble only if you use oj shoulder, not on tripod/monopod...

i have found another model, goodwell. still 1280x800 with peqaking. contrast 500, brightness 220. this brightness seems little, i don't know howx much it affect, but this is muche cheaper 5.6 monitor

The model is NEWAY CL700HO monitor although I'm sure like many from China it is rebranded as other things.

The peaking is effective but it is the old style broadcast peaking where it has a red outline around a black and white image. I personally find even though the peaking is good that I can just use my eyes with a monitor of this size and resolution. I usually don't use peaking with a high res monitor as peaking can be fooled by highlights off of things like jewelery.

The size isn't too much of an issue when shoulder mounted. I am missing some hadware to mount it in a better position for shoulder aplications and with 7" the hard part is getting it far enough from your face. With some additional mounting hardware it won't be an issue.

i donm't understand the part of mounting. can't you Mount it in the central toe (where the flash go)?

Yes you can mount it to the hot shoe via mini ball head or friction arm. This works great for tripod or monopod use but is far to high and not aligned with my eye for shoulder use. On the shoulder I like the monitor about 6-12" in front of the body when on my shoulder.
