Catch on to what? I'm really digging the idea. I think it could work. Though, I think there definitely should be a rival politician aiming for the Governor's seat, and is threatening to unleash hell if he doesn't leave his position right away, like in 48-hours; ooooh, and maybe your protagonist could get furious and train in the ways of ninjas or something (nah, not ninjas; too overdone) and pull out some over-the-top-high-flying action which culminates in an Act III free-for-all-car-chase-scene-from-hell. Yeah...

Sometimes ideas are bad ideas and people have a hard time 'swallowing' the truth.
