Suggestion for a feature script...

I came up with a cool high concept idea for a script today. But I've got so many other things on my plate that I tought I'd pass it along for others to develop.

Here goes.

A story of a brilliant Jewish heir to a NY real estate empire-- After Harvard Law, He enters politics and rises quickly through the ranks. He becomes Attorney General of New York where he proceeds to reform wall street but also alienates its Irish Catholic gate keepers. He becomes Governor of New York and sets his eyes on the white house. Meanwhile the Irish Catholic Wall Street ghouls are waiting in the shadows for revenge. An oversexed femme fatale is enlisted to seduce the governor and in a moment of weakness he submits to her wily charms. A huge political scandal ensues and the young governor faces the demise of his political career and family.

That's all I have for now. I'll think of some more tomorrow.

I think I can take this a step further.

How about, this guy is convicted and sent to jail where he ends up with a toe tapping cell mate, let's name the cell mate, Larry. Now Larry comes from across the aisle, where he was raised on potatoes and has a strange passion for visiting out of the way airports. Larry also has a deep need to be really close; to the ex-governor. But he can only communicate by tapping his foot. The ex-governor at first is confused, but after a while he gets starts to think, Larry doesn't want any money, he just wants to meet me over by the toliet.

That's about as far as I can take it right now.

I think i have a name for your character ... Spelliot Itzer.

My only criticism of your synopsis is that the femme fatal part doesn't seem very credible. What if instead of being some sort of innocent that was seduced by a femme fetal he regularly used the prostitution service and was accidentally caught in a federal wire tap scheduling his usual. More believable that way I think.

I think that goes against the personality of the character the OP wants to portray -- someone who is generally upstanding and honest, but makes a mistake in a moment of weakness. A mistake that carries dire consequences. And a mistake that is engineered -- and capitalized on -- by the Irish Catholic Wall Street moguls.

It seems to me to be a story that revolves around the idea that one moment of weakness -- one simple mistake in judgement -- can destroy the rest of your life.

Actually, everything Brian put for in his original post doesn't seem like a story to me -- it seems like the SETUP for a story. It seems to me that the REAL story is how the main character deals with the consequences of his actions. Perhaps it's a frantic attempt to save his career by keeping the scandal from being made public. Or perhaps it's how he's able to turn a defeat into a victory -- how the consequences that seem so devastating actually bring about an amazing opportunity that he would have otherwise never had.

It's a good start. What happens next?

Gimme a break, no one would believe a story like that. I'm trying to keep this idea believable and frankly you're not being very helpful with your fanstastical plot twist suggestions.

How about some irony thrown in?

Say in addition to reforming Wall Street, this particular Governor also busted a few prostitution rings.

Brian, this isn't high concept.

I don't think the character should resign, he should fight on under the glare and scrutiny of the media spectacle.

Hi Brian,

Yes inded, I think you've got something here, but where are we so far - ACT I or ACT II?

I suggest you develop your backstories, akin to the movie Syriana. For instance, one good subplot might be invasion of privacy (wiretaps without due cause, etc). How about private negotiations with the undercover agents, their bosses, the governor's aides, and the governor - add depth and perspectives to the protagonist's role. And what about his aides and security detail? Certainly they must have known about the Sheriff of Wall Street's smoking gun (sic), especially during his brief interlude at Room 871 of the Mayflower hotel. Also, what's the angle for Mr. Paterson, the heir apparent?

You might even want to delve into other high-profile client's of prostitute Kirsten's employer. Will the prosecutor be allowed to dig deep into the records of the Emperor Club, or will someone from "up above" whisper to the prosecutor's office that they call off the dogs?

On that note, I wonder who's lining up to buy this story...

Juicy stuff! Michael
