Sorry if this has been answered but has David indicated whether the cineporter will have the external hard drive dub option ?
Also David if you can provide a simple way of naming clips and making them available to an NLE I reckon your sales will go through the roof. I know this is all more work; but I think its the company that goes the extra mile who will ultimately corner the market.

There are some detailed posts on this subject, but simply put, we are not changing the naming convention at this time. This is something slated for future updates.

You can use a USB OTG drive to offload the full contents of the CinePorter™ in one shot or FW800 or the CardBus slot in your PC or MAC for manual, but faster copy.

We have some ideas on improving functionality and will continue to work on firmware updates after the release.

David.

Hea David,

Wondered how the CP is dealing with new FCP 5.1.1 at the long clip/new clip switchover points. Focus has finally figured out that indeed we are dropping frames at the switchover point (randomly) upon import into FCP when selecting "delete duplicate frames" on the import P2 media option. They think it's something to do with the way FCP reads the frame identifiers and decides which ones to delete on import so it's hit or miss which ones are dropped at the swithcover. It's killing us in edit with probably 12 hours of Firestore stuff.

By the way, I'm really thrilled to see that the CP is FW 800 and fast on import. Very smart. The future has much promise if this is Version 1.

I see a multi in the future!!

I agree, I know we are all waiting with baited breath for the release of the Cineporter but now is the time to be deciding how were going to make it work for us.
I was just wondering if anybody has any suggestions on what 's the best OTG Hard Drive to use with the Cineporter? I imagine it would be better to have a firewire transfer. I am looking for a drive to copy the days footage to and hand to an editor, and was wondering what the transfer time for a full 160 GB drive would be. (not that I will be filling a drive every day but rather as a reference)
I think it is an important consideration especially for those working on larger projects and who will need to farm out their footage at the end of each days shoot. Any Suggestions or links please ?

I have to much free time, and these things take me five min to whip up.
I do photoshop work all day for different groups, and on my breaks, I just think of these things.

The Spec Comm site mentions the weight of the 320 GB model (2.5 lbs), but I haven't seen any mention of the weight of the 160 GB model. Can we assume it to be just under 2 lbs (0.9 kg)?

The weight of 1 HDD is only 100g.

Barry , why not use the USB on-the-go drive to offload P2 card and forget about the cineporter. You have to off load more frequetly but it saves costs. Which workflow do you prefere : P2 store, FS-100 or cineporter and why?

Still concerned about offloading. How about this: can you add a USB port that supports MSC, so that a USB-On-The-Go drive could quaff the contents of the CinePorter? That would be a very nice, very valuable addition.

I'm thinking here of the situation of trying to hand off a copy of the footage to someone. If you just put a USB2 port on there that supports MSC (I think that's mass storage class), then any USB-On-The-Go drive could be used to copy the full contents of the CinePorter off. That way if you shot an hour of footage, you could give the client a $70 hard disk/enclosure combo with a complete copy of all the footage.

Hey Guys, This is SpecComms CINEPORTER THREAD, we will not forget of forsake the CinePorter :) CinePorter is not like P2 store, or FS100. Some resons: BIGGER HD, RAID 1, and 0, and BEING able to record native, and 800mins of continuous recording. From what I am aware of David has answered all questions, including that Barry question. If David missed a question, send him a PM with it.

David, does the drive need time to ramp up to speed once the record button is pressed or are the drives constantly spinning? I understand that with the P2 cards recording is immediate.

Oh I am getting excited, it's been about 5 days!!! :)

I know I promised an update this week, but we are working out a supply problem that has a potential of delaying things and I don't want to worry everyone or disseminate information I would have to immediately change, so I will hold any updates until we solve this current issue, which I hope will be within a week.

On the positive side... I know how unhappy many were with the pictures of the prototype we used for Alpha testing. So, as promised, the new design drawings will be up on our web site shortly and real pictures to follow. The new design incorporates a magnesium cast frame with a stainless steel impregnated composite shell. Initial figures indicate that it will be much better looking as well as lighter and MUCH stronger. We are shooting for a 6 ft drop onto concrete without any damage. This design also incorporates the support for Anton/Bauer plates.

Hi Gary,

The drives are always spinning and all the functionality of loop and pre-record is preserved with the CinePorter™. One of the relevant things we haven't revealed yet, is the huge cache incorporated into the design. This allows you to start recording even if the drives have not yet spun up, such as when you first turn it on.

Hope this helps,

David

That is wonderful news. I'll be doing a lot of nature videography and the pre-record function is a valuable function. Thanks for the reply.

Gary,

One thing I should add is that the HVX does not offer loop and pre-record in all the modes. I'll have to confirm, but I think at least the Pn modes do not. Anyway, we'll support the ones that do.

Thanks for the update, David. I can certainly understand supplier problems, so just let us know when you work out the delivery issues.

The 6 ft drop test would be nice. I've dropped my FS4 several times, and fortunately it continued to work. Do you think you can talk Panasonic into guaranteeing a 6 ft drop for the HVX, too?

My question got lost among the long list, I should have put it on top lol, anyhowHow will we be conacted regarding this list? I would hate to miss the announcement on this site because my job keeps taking me away for stints. Thanks alot

I apologize for missing your question, ruester. I'm not exactly sure right now how we're going to handle this list. When it fills up and closes, we will likely request everyone's info e-mailed to us and put in a database.

Sorry if this has already been asked, but....
Does CP have firewire or usb2 output? Only my editing laptop is damned cutting edge that it ha ExpresCard not PC card, and I don't want to faff around with adaptors or second laptops or other money wasters.
Oh yes, sorry but what is the pricing and availability in Uk, Are there going to be any resellers or must I order directley. My apologies again but I've only just come to this thread and couldn't find the answers.

Regards,
Dave
