Suggested SD Card

I know this has been discussed a lot, I was just wondering based on people's opinions and hopefully experience, whats the best SD card to get? I'm looking at 16gb's due to their relative low cost and I believe at full HD settings and what not with the HMC I read it gets about 90minutes, am I correct?

Well going off that would you guys recommend the Panasonic card? B&H has it for 89.50:

or would basically any other 16gb do? I know it probably would have to be another class 6 card to compare but there are some cheaper then the panasonic, and what money I can save would be great. If you know of a really good card you like let me know, thanks.

Also, as I posted this I looked at the panasonic card and saw that they dont even have that in stock =/ so that also could be a deciding factor

i used cheap 8GB transcend class 6 sdhc card and its as good as it needs to . I ordered thru amazon 2 more 16gb with usb reader for $37 each

ya that looks like a good deal, whats the specific amount of time of recording you get at full HD settings? Is it like I said 90 minutes or so?

ok, then any suggestions D.R Gates? I don't mind spending money if i need to and its worth it, but if I can save I want to save

The transcend class 6 cards are better than the requirements needed.
I have never had any trouble with them at any speed with 2 different cameras.

The sandisk extreem II have not performed for me in the highest recording mode.
The transcends have always performed.

The sandisk extreem III have worked, but still seemed to read slower than the transcends when doing the transfers back to external storage.

The sandisks are 3 times the price and for me, seemed to perform slower.

With a card like this one, you can shoot in all the quality options available with the 150 (up to 30MB/s). However, the HG setting (13 Mpbs/1920x1080) might be more than adequate for most and will net you 2 hours 20 minutes on the 16GB card.

i guess ill try the transcend cards due to their really low costs, if it proves too slow then I'll have to move on to a more expensive card.

i use this one from transcend. works perfectly for me and was mad cheap.

I was considering this one until I noticed that, out of 784 customer reviews, 81 gave a rating of only a single star. If you read the reviews, you'll come across some sad tales of loss and see that there is a higher than 10% chance of card failure.

The Panasonic card is nearly three times the cost. There are only positive reviews; however, there are merely two.

Perhaps a dvxuser poll is in order.

Mad cheap, maybe, but it only writes at 6 MB/s speed. That's only good for the lowest quality setting. If you want to record to the highest quality setting, you'll need a much faster (and much more expensive) card
Not so. The Transcend card is more than capable of recording at any setting the 150 has. EX1 owners use the very same Transcend cards to record at 35 mbs. Save a wad of money and go with the Transcend.

wat. i can record 90 minutes of 24mbps footage with this card...

I have one panasonic 16gb and 4 16gb transcends (class 6). If it's a one take shot like a special effect I use the panasonic otherwise I use the trancends. However, I have yet to have ANY problems with the transcends and the panasonic card is just for alleviating OCD.

6MB/s is equivilent to 48Mbps. So, being conservative, if your datastream is over 30Mbps, then maybe you want to find a faster card.

I've been using an A-Data and a Transcend 16GB card for about a years as my daily shooting card. Lately, though, I've been buying Kingston cards as they are comparable price wise and theoretically higher quality as they are a "name" brand. I haven't used the kingstons long enough to comment.

I suspect all of the brand, and off-brand (but not necessarily the no-brands) are going to generally be of good quality, and many of the complaints I've seen from people in the reviews seemed to be people who were trying to use the card with some funky windows flash mode.

And that's my point. I want a card that's 100% reliable. If that means I have to pay more, then I'll do it.

Its a class 6 rating and can handle the highest quality footage the HMC can produce. I have recorded 3 hours of highest quality on a Class 4 Patriot 32g card, which is supposed to be even slower.

Reliability is another factor though. I can see the justification of going with the Panny cards, although I have recorded quite a few hours of footage now with no problems on the Transcends. I may buy a Panny card for important projects.

I'll admit the reliability factor of these low cost cards are in question, but no card, even the Pansonic branded ones, will be 100% reliable.
