Sudden problem burning AVCHD DVD

I have a new EX1R, and have watched Noah’s excellent EX1 video guide, and would love to see video from this camera on the large screen TV. However, I am having a problem when I try to burn a Blue Ray AVCHD onto a DVD using Share, burn Blu-ray, etc (not going through compressor - I do not see a blu-ray option in compressor). This is a 15:25 long 720P video (mostly D3s). Mid way through the burn it pops out the blank DVD I had in the computer and the Create Disk message saying, “Please Insert the dual layer media to burn the disc”. The drawer will not close unless I push it, and then it opens again after a few seconds.

The Share Window shows “Exporting 2 Output Files: Burning DVD (55% complete)
Time remaining about 48 seconds
Time Elapsed: 35 minutes and 44 seconds
Processing: File 2 of 2 - name-Blu-ray.264

The same thing happened last night, and several times today. I have used this process many times before with no problems. I am using the instructions here,

http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/burn_br_mac_superdrive_stone.html

Where I just go to Share, Blu-ray, check Create Blu-ray disc, choose destination and output device, and click Export

I also get this message sometimes: Share Warning**NSException raised by “NSPortTimeoutException’, reason = connection timeout: did not receive reply’

Every time I try this, the Blu-ray.ac3 file appears to burn successfully, but the Blu-ray.264 file stops right at 1.59 GB.

The other weird thing is the DVD drive door opens and will not close unless I push it closed.

I tried again using a new sequence with a 6.17 GB prores 422 file in the timeline. Same thing happens. The drawer with the blank DVD opens and I get the “Please Insert the dual layer media to burn the disc” message. To close the drawer I have to push it with my hand. I hear the DVD whirring for a few seconds and it pops open again. Like before the ac3 burn seems to have been successful, but the blu-ray .264 has stopped at 55% complete.

I tried just burning a 1080 EX1R clip to the AVCHD Blu-ray DVD and get this message: Share Warning. NSException raised by ‘NSPortTimeoutException’, reason = ‘connection timeout: did not receive reply’

I did download and install Nattress Standards Conversion last night, and ran it once to convert some NTSC to PAL. Could there be a conflict here causing this problem? I successfully burned DVDs last night using the detailed instructions in Noah’s EX1 video, so the problem seems to be only with the blu ray AVCHD DVD.

Can anyone help me solve this..?

Thanks,

Bill

Export self contained.

Use the template chooser to elect blu ray, and then choose output to AVCHD.

Don't use share; it's buggy

Thanks David. I am sorry to be obtuse, but I am not near my FCP computer, and I am new to both FCP and video. Is the template chooser the various folder choices I see in Compressor? I do not remember seeing one for Blu-ray - only for DVDs.

I did download Toast 10 after I posted this, and successfully burned an AVCHD DVD. If I have to go this route, is the best quality file a pro res 422 output from FCP?

Thanks,

Bill

Open Compressor.

File/New Batch from Template

Create Blu Ray

Job Action/Output Device/Create AVCHD

I get here and I see Job Action, create Blu-ray disc, but where do I find Job Action/Output Device/Create AVCHD?

I see an blu-ray icon with H.264 for blu-ray and a DVD Dolby Audio icon next to a box with an arrow pointing down. If I click submit, I get a message saying One or more jobs do not have a source media file assigned. I would like to have the FCP file I have open selected, but I do not how to do this.

Thanks,

Bill

Hi David,

If I output a file ( for example, a prores 422) from FCP, and then burn that file on an AVCHD DVD or blu-ray disc, will the quality be the same as if I burned the AVCHD DVD or blu-ray disc? If so, is a prores 422 the best choice to use?

Thanks again,

Bill
