Re: Sucker MC rough cut

What can I say?

Very very cool. Love it. Love the song, love the Vid, love the urban, gritty feel. Love Annabella...

Serious. Great stuff.

This is a tribute, yes? I'd like to see more of the man.

If I had to pick something to say (if any) I'd like to see some different 'color' in the piece. Perhaps when they are chillin on the steps playing the guitar; it could be warmer?

Add a little eye candy to the overall piece in terms of warmth. Only on certain locals though.

I loved this. Great stuff.

Re: Sucker MC rough cut

Hey opressor - Looks cool 8)

Now how do you get that 10.5 mb clip to load straight away like that - what do you encode with ?
I cannot seem to get my head around trying to get a niced size screen size like yours but with good quality image + loading showing a loading bar just like that ?
Everytime I upload something - it is blank until it loads + it is a pretty small screen ?

I tend to use mp4 using QT compression thru final cut pro 4.1 - since it keeps the size down + it seems to be the best image after experimenting, although - I haven't tried compressor properly yet - whats your method ?

Cheers

Re: Sucker MC rough cut

Thanks, yeah this is a tribute to Jam Master Jay. That compressed color thing was a test to see if I can keep the reds strong and drop everything else. I would hate to make the whole vid that way since I think some of the shots look great without it. The video is supposed to be reminisent of the 80's feel. Going out, having fun but with a serious feel. I wish it was warmer on the steps because I froze my ass off ;). I will give a try though and see what it looks like. I have to create an EDL (edit decision list) for motion graphics place that will actually be doing the "treatment" when its time whatever the "treatment" may be. I have not found anything in Vegas that says how to output an EDL but I may be too tired to see it. Anyone know? If it doesnt I will have to re-edit from scratch but thats ok because I dont think I will ever edit a music video using the pulldown again. Everything looks and sounds like it in synch, but its not. It seems the pull down works when you keep the same audio from the clip but when you are synching with a new track...you go beat the dog a few times after rendering and finding something is off. I dont really beat the dog, I just punt the cats over the shower curtain. its ok though, I fill the tub first so they have a soft landing.
The next edit will probably look way different than this one just from the meeting tonight about new shots with projecting some RUNDMC footage on a wall. We tried to do some tonight but the dang fuse kept blowing on the projector.
The ending needs to be tied together too somehow but since the idea has changed a few times (thats why the screen shots i put up arn't in this rough cut) it still has to be thought out.

Yo Benzo, I used canopus pro coder to encode and it took a looooong time to get it to render the size i wanted. I had to go into advanced tab and screw around in there. I just kept rendering a small test until it came out like that. The presets say 16x9 but i think they lied. What i would do next time to kept the real aspect ratio is use photoshop to resize a 16x9 screen shot and take the numbers from there. Not sure what you mean by it loads with a progress bar, I just tried it and it just stayed blank until it loaded. When I encoded it i checked off streaming and if i put it in an HTML page it would load with the progress bar but i was lazy... :P

Re: Sucker MC rough cut

hmmm, by going through the replies I wonder if I've seen a different clip. No criticism whatsoever ??

First of all, i liked the bleached out look and the street-atmosphere of that ruff-cut too. And I shure like the song...

BUT technically there's a bit to complain: Too many, too long transitions which slow the whole thing down a lot. Also you shouldn't be forced to watch the cameraman find the right frame "on air". The idea with the  repro-shots of Run-DMC is good but the panning and visualisation looks kind of awful. Also I would avoid servo-zooming for any purpose in a stylish urban clip like this.

Having noted this minor criticism, I'd like to say that I have no doubt that this material will make a great clip when it's actually finished.

Oppressor

I like the idea of using a projector on a wall.

Maybe you can find a huge white wall outside and have it fill up the entire wall?

Thinking out loud...............

Re: Sucker MC rough cut

24p thin. Originally i was editing with the pull down but trying to synch the lips and the music was a night mare so I changed the project to not do the pull down and leave it at 29.... I re-edited also and took out the glow look and I think it looks better. When I get home today Ill post this next rough cut. We need to get a big projector that will be bright enough to illuminate everything. When the projector did work for that second or two, it didnt seem bright enough, especially with all the street lights even though we went to DUMBO and found desolate dark areas.

Thanks
