Feedback would be nice especially if there are specific things/details that catches your attention in the movie or on the technical side. That would help me get an idea what to improve next time.

Also the movie was shot in Montreal and the actress main language is french so i would like to know if you think she has a noticeable accent when she speaks english and how you feel about it.

Cheers

Absoluetely beautiful. LOVE the use of shadows and high contrast BW. Also enjoyed the score.

I hope someday I can do this.

First of all, hey you're from Montreal! So am I. What area? Do you study, and if so, where?

Now onto this film:

I felt this was a piece driving solely by visuals. If that's your intention, then good job.

The story wasn't really... much. It wasn't engaging. There were a few moments, such as around 6 minutes, where the dialogue with the quick cuts felt very engaging and tense. To be honest though, if it weren't so visual, I would have stopped it early on as they were simply talking about the name sublime #3 for 5 minutes.

However, the acting and directing were pretty solid the whole way through. She hid her accent pretty well. I can make it out a bit, but I'm not sure if it's because I hear the accent all the time, day to day. I'm anglophone by the way. She has a bit of trouble with p's, d's, y's, those hard letters, but all in all it's fine.

However, as a visual piece, wow wow wow. This was amazing. I loved it. Simply film noir lighting set ups, but very dynamic and interesting in every scene. I see the influences from sin city or other mediums, using a touch of colour on a few select items, her eyes, the cigarette, etc.

My fave shot is the opening shot of her as a silhouette and a strong back light, and we see her breath in the air and she lights a cigarette. Looked very sin city with strong contrast. She was right out of a comic book.

I also enjoyed how the side light/key was always changing sides when we would cut from one shot to another. Sometimes it would be on her left, sometimes on her right. I really enjoyed that.

Great use of shadows and hard light vs diffused.

Although I really really hate the idea of putting cigarettes in movies, I loved the shots of the cigarettes, the effects you put on them, etc. How many cigs did she smoke!?! lol. Remember, smoking kills. :)

All in all it's solid as a visual piece. Very beautiful and strong piece of work. But I gotta say, if it weren't so visual, the story/dialogue wouldn't have kept me watching.

EDIT: Forgot to add. The editing was decent, but sometimes it was a little bit... strange. I suppose it's a style. I like when you have some quick cuts to CUs, and the tension the quick cutting gives, but sometimes it would be a series of short cuts, then a series of long cuts, then a series of short, then of long, and sometimes it just felt out of place. It helped to build this over-all tension, but sometimes just didn't work. Hard to describe as editing is a feeling. Just didn't feel right at some places.

hey , thanks a lot for the feedback,
well, i m getting my diploma in advertising this year and i applied at concordia & UQAM in film production.

I a gree with you for the editing , the fact is due to the actresses very tight schedule, we shot all the interior in one day while it should have been two so we did not have enough coverage. :( Also since we rushed to a lot of takes, sometime the blocking continuity was off so the editing was a lot about trying to keep continuity.

I definitely agree with you for the narrative side , that will be something to work on our next project :)

oh , and we used about 70 moores cigarettes for the short lol

cheers

looked great. Writing was a little spotty, and there were a LOT of unmotivated edits. Overall, very pretty.

Well, here goes:

1) Story doesn't seem to be there at all, so not sure if there was some point.

2) Filming was ok, but a bit extreme for me. Short shots back to her mouth smoking the cig, seem repeated and there for no real reason. Some cuts seemed a bit rushed.

3) The shots where he's talking to her seems to have been recorded from 2 different angles and was very confusing to me. He seemed to be in a closet with his back to her and yet was facing her the whole time. Not sure what you were after there. Maybe you were filming him through a mirror or something? But it just didn't work for me.

4) I think it was a bit dark and kept waiting for a plot or something but when it ended I almost felt I had watched a shorter version of Eyes Wide Shut.

5) The sound seemed to have a bit of background noise like cars or something.

6) When the camera initially moves into the room, you cast your own shadows on the wall, or at least it appeared that way since no one else was moving at the time.

Sorry to be so harsh... It was a good film and had its moments, just some seemed a bit contrived to me.

Have a good one,

glenn

He kept reiterating sublime #3. We got that was her name. I just am not too sure what happened in that 10 minutes. I don't know. Visually it looked pretty.

I just feel like it was style over substance. I cannot wait to see what you do when you work with a really good script though. Everything else was there but, the story.

Edit: And I think the title/name of the character is a perfect example of Style over Substance. That is just a rather unpractical name. And definitely took me out of the story every time it was muttered....I was just saying 'why?' is she a futuristic sex robot? i am not too sure.

Hey thanks a lot for the feedback,

A lot of the couneter shots were made through a mirror, hence the switch of angle. with the compression of the web version... it might be harder to see.

Cheers
