Stuttery/Jittery EVF & LCD (probably a silly question)

Hi all

I haven't had the chance to offload any of my vids to my computer yet because I'm waiting for my deck (I'm refusing to even plug a firewire cable into my DVX from my computer).

Whenever I shoot 24p/24pa, the footage looks jittery in the LCD and viewfinder. Sharp turns and light turns. Still is fine. I'm at a 48 shutter speed.

I'm assuming this is normal due to the -6.024 frame loss and will be fixed when the pulldown is removed during transfer to Vegas. But I'm asking you so I can be sure there's nothing wrong with my camera.

I searched the forums but didn't find an exact answer. Thanks always for your help.

No need to worry here. Most people often complain about the jittery-ness of 24p footage after working exclusively with 60i. With 60i 1/60th, your shutter is always open always capturing motion information, hence no jittery or strobe like movements. However when shooting in 24p with a 1/48th shutter the shutter is working in an open close way. So if your waving your camera around like crazy, you will not get smooth motion like your used to in 60i. It's always been this way and the only way to get rid of it would just be to pan and tilt slower. You could always lower your shutter to 1/24 for more motion blur, but some people say that they lose that film like look.
Hope this helps.

Thanks Macintosh. Will it be a bit less jittery when I import it into vegas? I mean, it really seems jittery, even when I pan at moderately slow speeds.

The basic rule is that for anything sampled at 24 fps, an object will be "jittery" if it crosses the screen any faster than about 7 seconds. This is not unique to the dvx or any progressive video device, its present in film as well, its just the nature of a sampled system.

You can reduce the effect by panning on a moving object (the background will still be jittery, but it isn't as noticeable) or you can slow the shutter down (blurring the motion more).
