Stupid Question, I know

I'm getting a DVX (Used) this week, and have a question.

Can I shoot in 4:3 but with widescreen guides on? The XL1s (which we use at school) has this function, and I think it is really cool.

I would like to have a good estimation of where 16x9 would be without taping or masking the monitor/lcd screen.

So does the DVX100 (not A) have this feature?

Thanks!

Re: Stupid Question, I know

no it does not. I myself find that shooting with a plasit guide on the screen is just as effective however.

Alright, thanks.

That's not a problem, just would have been nice.

Anything in particular to use to mask it, I don't want to use tape because it will hide all of the information displayed on the screen.

Thanks!

Re: Stupid Question, I know

I have seen people use this clear plastic stuff they sell at electronics stores. They sell it to be used with PDA screens and such, but it would work just fine. Its similar to the stuff that comes on certain new electronics screens and other shiny surfaces, its like a thin plastic film that adheres like saran wrap sort of. Use a sharpy and draw your lines on and BAM, you have 16x9 guides on a 4:3 screen!

And it protects your screen.

But, it muddies the lcd image when you look through it.

THat's what I like about Vegas video so much, if you decide you want to change your framing a little with a 16/9 mask over your 4:3 footage then you can move you image up of down ::)
