Studio Production Needs

So let's say we have three HVX200s, a mini switcher, and a Final Cut Studio.

What would be the best way to switch a live show to "tape", keeping in mind it needs to be to time as well.

Another problem is having segments that are thrown to, so how to roll a clip or something, would that have to be done in post?

I am trying to minimize the amount of editing that needs to be done on it, essentially trying to set up a live to tape scenario where clips or bumpers can be rolled and the final product going to Final Cut.

Is this possible?

Just take the HVX200's, go to the switch, and from there
go to tape recording device.
If you have pre-recorded stuff, input that into the switch as if it were a 4th camera and switch to it when needed, or do that portion in post.

We have pretty much that set up... this is what we do.

4 HVX's, Lock down, component out of Cams to switcher.
All audio through switcher via mixer.

Out of switcher into deck ( either Beta, Mini DV, etc) Component

Out of deck into Firestore. ( firewire )

The tape is basically a backup, then we start work immediately off the firestore.

We have all our throws pre edited and lay them in later... as well as some GFX.. lowers we do live. Please note that we are heavily scripted, so the floor manager starts and stops talent accordingly for tosses and breaks.

we do a 12 minute show everyday like this. usually a total of 4 hours from shoot to deployment to web and Broadcast syndication.

We use our TriCaster for this. We live switch up to 6 cameras and don't have to spend much or any time in the edit bay. GFX can be added live or later in post. It's given us an advantage when competing for multi-camera productions.

There are enough units around the country that you could rent one or hire someone out.
e-mail me if you want more info or take a look at it here:

Best of luck.

TriCaster is what's saving us in these tough economic times. There are so many ways it can make you money.
Chip, have you used one yet? Maybe I'll bring it with me when I chase tornados with you. :)
