Student website with doc footage

Hi all!
My name is Chad Owen and I'm a student from Chicago whose university film group has bought the HVX200 and graciously let me use it on my senior thesis project. I'm shooting a doc in New Orleans until the middle of April. I've created a website www.noladoc.com to document my experience and get input from videographers and filmmakers such as ya'll.
Keep in mind that I'm a student and I'm completely new to both the P2 technology and the whole filmmaking experience. I only wish to further the HVX200 and P2 community and hope that in turn you will help me. I keep up the site in my spare time and upload clips when I can. Right now there are two clips in 4 formats. I only ask that you link to my site and not directly to the files. Post comments and feel free to private message or e-mail me.

Thanks for the clips. The interior scene had a lot of noise.. Really a ton. Was it there on the original or through the 264 compression? Possibly under-exposed and/or with the detail setting too high...

The skyline shot looks pretty good. Some noise in the black shadows. A lot of this stuff I NEVER saw on my old CRT and now it just is so apparant on the Dell. Possibly it could be the DVI connection as well.

Thanks for the footage and keep on going. I'm sure Barry and others with more expererience with the HVX will be able to give you the optimal camera settings and compression info as well. I'd love to know how those apple trailers turn out looking so effin' beautiful... The webvideo for that busgirl looks really nice as well.

Which Chicago school are you at?

Great stuff there. Best of luck with the documentary.

are you the chad that was at the HVX demo in austin (held at Omega Broadcast in january)?

Chad, is there anyway you could post the additional files that were on the p2 cards? Final Cut is telling me that it can't see the footage in the files I downloaded. It needs some kind of index file and metadata. Thanks!(P.S. I went to Columbia College for a while in their film department, many many years ago)

The MXF clips are edits from footage that I've shot and consoldated in Avid. I don't have FCP, so unfortunately I can't test the output. I've edited the shots down because most of my shots are several minutes long and too large to post on the net.
From what I've heard, FCP needs to convert the MXF files into QT files before importing them properly. FCP may be thinking that the MXF files are XDCAM files, like Avid does if you try and import them. I'd also make sure that you have a current version of FCP that supports P2 files. I'm not exactly sure which it is unfortunately.

Yeah Danny, it's the Chad from the Omega demonstration. Good to hear from you.

I'm at the University of Chicago in Hyde Park.

I'll be posting some more clips this afternoon.

-Cheers

hey chad... thought that was you but wanted to make sure. i posted that greenscreen clip you posed for in the HVX screen grab section - go check it out:

your face is comped on several different backgrounds (it's a big thread). the links i posted no longer work, but i think there are some still active (deeper in the thread) to get the raw file...
