This is a student film I made for a college class. It was made in about seven weeks from concept to premiere. Currently it is in a contest from in my school. If it is favorited the most times out of all the films on their Youtube channel, they are going to give out a $1000 scholarship. Let me know what you think about the movie and please favorite it! Thanks! The contest ends Friday (tomorrow) @ 5PM.

Hey Scott, I enjoyed your movie, and favorited it. I would have loved to see it shot on 24p but 30 worked well. I thought the acting of the lead was excellent. My parents and Sister went to APU. I just finished shooting my first Feature Film, Stricken. Check it out. I wish you the best. -Matt Sconce

24p

24p

I've found that the 24p mode on the V1U isn't very good. It looks pretty strobe-ish and not like film. (Maybe I'm using the wrong settings?) Also, I have never found a good way to get true 24p out of a 60i stream. I know you can do it, it always just seemed like a lot of extra time and pretty technical. If the camera had supported 24 naively I would have used it :)

So I thought I'd post a little bit about the production since that is keeping in spirit with this film.

It was made by myself and one other partner in a cinema production course. I was the director he was the cinematography/editor. Over the semester we made two films together. (If your curious about the other one that I DP'd on it is here) I was given the assignment to write, direct, and produce a five minute film with no location sound.

So I wrote the script, brought it to class, had a round table workshop, and revised it. Then I went about the task of getting actors. This was by far the most nerve racking part for me. I posted on breakdown express not thinking I would get any replies. I was wrong. I got hundreds. So i narrowed it down to a manageable amount and brought them in for casting. Of course, not everyone could make it so I was basically forced to go with whoever showed up to casting. (I had a few choices with the lead).

Once I had the cast more or less set, I *cough*secured*cough* locations. Ok so I shot guerrilla because I didn't have 250 dollars (call that a student rate :P) to spend on public land out in the desert. Other locations were @ Griffith park and around my school.

Props were rented from ISS and costumes from Universal Studios.

We shot over three weekends. I had difficulty getting some of the actors and we had to bend the script a little to make do with what we had.

Post was completed in roughly three to four weeks including FX and sound. My partner did most of the editing, but I tweaked it to my liking. I did all of the effects with Action Essentials in After Effects CS3. (I wish Action essentials 2 was out when I made it.) Couldn't find a composer so I had my room mate play some guitar and the rest of the music I got off freeplaymusic.com.

If anyone has any questions, feel free to ask. Please favorite the film on YouTube there are less than 18 hours left!
