Dude, you can't use a mac like you would unix or linux. You can't even use it like you would windows. it's its own machine, you have to use it the way it's meant to be used. instead of trying to find a way to do something a specific way, try letting the program do it. it's pretty intuitive once you get used to how it works.
To put it another way, it would be like trying to drive a porsche like a ford, or a go-kart like a ferrari, however you want to describe it. Every car and manufacturer has certain things they choose to emphasise over others, quality of interior vs solidity of construction, vs horsepower vs looks vs whatever else is important. When I bought a mustang, I valued straight line horsepower over handling capabilities, but driving in my mom's bmw I can feel the importance of bmw's emphasis on handling and driveability. They're all different machines, for different uses.
Hell, Tom. There's no reason to subject yourself to such pain. Give the damned thing to me. :happy:I'm not concerned with it being intuitive or not. Mac is BSD based. That's a fact. I should be able to do anything I want to do via command line. That's all I'm looking to do. I don't want to install UNIX software or port anything from UNIX. I just want to do things the way that's more comfortable for me. There are PLENTY of technical guys who run a Mac in more of a UNIX manner. That's why books have been written on the subject. I'm refuse to adapt myself to a specific "way of thinking" because Apple or whoever else dictates that I should do so to use their computer. That, to me, is asinine.
