Stu Maschwitz book...magnetic protractor?

In Stu's book there is a picture of a carpenter's protractor being used to check the camera angles for shooting special effects for compositing. The only protractors of this sort I've been able to find have magnetic backs and bases, fairly strong magnets from what I can tell. I'm concerned about holding this close to my DVX even if it's for a few seconds to check the angles. Will these magnets affect my camera? Is there a type of these without magnets? Am I worrying about nothing?

Thanks

Hmmm... valid question. I do know that people use magnets to flip the LCD screen all the time with no *known* side effects. I would say that unless it's an industrial strength magnet, you'll be just fine.

How "strong" are you talking?

Nevermind, I just google searched protractor's, and now see what they are. It'll be fine.

Here's a nice cheap one. You do want to keep the magnet away from your tapes, but it's safe to put in on the top of the camera for a moment. There may also be a way to remove the magnet.

They're about the same price at Lowes and Sears around here. This one also has a magnet that's listed as "permanent". I wonder if I'd tear up the whole thing trying to get the magnet off? Hmmm...
Anyway, the other thing I think about is throwing it into a case with some other odds and ends, heading to a shoot, then finding that everything in my case is stuck to the magnet. Well, would make unloading faster, eh? lol
