Strobing in 25p video

I shot my cousin's wedding with my DVX100BE, and any kind of camera movement makes the image very jittery:

(click download - be advised: it takes place in provincial Russia)

I realize that these camera movements might be too fast for 25p, but something seems off. In pans, the image is so jittery as to be unwatchable because of that strobing. Is there something I'm doing wrong? Are there any tips for shooting handheld to avoid that kind of stuff?

Scene settings: the original 25p preset (same as 24p on the NTSC DVX) with 1/50 shutter.

Thanks a million for all your suggestions :Drogar-Dum(DBG):

If I remember correct, this seems to be the nature of the progressive mode when viewed on an interlaced screen like a regular SD TV. I dont know what you are wathcing it on though.

You are right about the panning speed. I think, in Barry's book there is a table showing how fast or slow you should pan for various shutterspeeds and framerates.

Just watched your video.... I cant judge from that compressed web video... that happens sometimes even with web videos because of the compression. But, for example, when you watch it on your home TV and DVD player that does not support progressive mode, you will see some strobing while panning because the TV and DVD player playback the video interlaced.

i uploaded a full res dv pal video and it looks jittery both on a computer monitor and a TV set. You are raising an interesting point though, there is a correlation between the speed of panning and shutterspeed. what is it? since i don't have access to Barry's book here in Russia.
thank you

Assuming that footage wasn't sped up in some way....

then it seems to me that you are moving/panning way way way too fast, added to that the hand held aspect and thats what you end up with.

I shoot on a PAL dvxB, and just panning hand held at an average speed leads to strobing/jitters in 25p and i never walk the way you do hand held (its like you are under fire on the beach in Saving Private Ryan!)

I now shoot 50i for weddings with maybe a bit of 25p when they are having their pictures taken in a park or something.

EDIT: i meant to say i am shooting in Romania and everyone shoots weddings hand held here, i assume its the same in Russia? Seems very different to the "western tripod weddings" so to speak.

i don't know the way the shoot weedings here (i've seen both handheld and shoulder mounted cameras), but i want to make a documentary and there's going to be a lot of movement which is a challenge for 25p look so i need to figure out if there are settings that minimize strobing like higher shutter speeds, for example. that's basically what i'm trying to find out.
that bite is off course extreme panning but i might have to do this kind of thing.
