FS7: Stripped VF / Mic screw - thumbscrew options?

I recall this being mentioned early on, but can't find the thread.

After a few months use, the small screw that holds the 15mm rod + mic holder is stripping out.

Does anyone know what size this screw is? Or if a thumbscrew option exists?

I don't know about that screw, I did replace the screw that attaches the viewfinder to the rod, with a flathead screw. I took it to the hardware store and got them to match it, it was a very common size, just longer than I expected.

Here is a picture. It's the screw on the front of the top handle

Taylor - there is a thread on here somewhere about this... but quick search and I couldn't find it either.
I replaced that little screw on my camera by ordering an M3, 30 , 10 adjustable straight lever (kept the part number in my cam bag)... per (I believe it was one of the) Ben's suggestions. Has worked great for me - allows me to keep the mic holder rotated upside down - since I don't use a cam mic mounted often - to fit in camera bag easier - but then also quickly loosen and rotate rod.
If I can find my receipt - I'll follow up with where I ordered the lever in the states (believe the original post was overseas).

Thanks Mark. Does the size of the lever prevent it from sitting flush? Also, do you mind posting a picture?

I found this on JW Winco's site. Link to the M3/30/10 size. Not positive it's the right one. - http://estore.jwwinco.com/default.aspx?page=item detail&itemcode=3N10AL0K

Link to the page with product photo of all sizes/lengths - http://www.jwwinco.com/products/section1/gn302a/

EDIT: Here is the direct link to the part Mark provides below: http://estore.jwwinco.com/default.aspx?page=item detail&itemcode=3N10AM0K

And Winco's site is where I ordered mine... found the packing list from my order back in June. Part number #3N10AM0K - which is GN302.1-30-M3-10 Straight Adj Lever Stainless Black

Markfpv,
I bought that screw with the handle from your post a awhile ago but I just couldn't get it to bite into the hole. Was there some trick ?

I also bought a little thumbscrew from Winco. Needed to combine it with a nut the same size to make it work. That seemed like a fine solution but just couldn't ever tighten it by hand enough to make it not slip. If I find the part number I'll post it.

Ahhh - I knew it was a Ben who originally posted this modification. Thanks Ben for jumping in - I've been quite happy with my straight lever.

And Lenny - as I recall - no trick at all. I simply used an allen wrench to tighten that lever in. Because of the ratchet action of the lever - you may need to pull it away from the threaded end so that it's easier to tighten. Or maybe your size is slightly off?

Yep, you need to hold the bolt in place with an Allen key, while you lift the ratchet back and forth to gradually tighten it up. A bit laborious, but only takes a couple of mins.

Just received this part from Winco and installed it. Very pleased. It does take a little finessing to get the threads started (I removed the lens to facilitate), but once it's on, it seems to do a very good job of tightening the 15mm rod that runs perpendicular to the handle.

I bought the lever screw combo from Winco as well and it works just great but it is a pain to install. I finally had to remove the handle assembly from the camera head so I could get a better crack at it. Then I used a computer screw driver with a hex head matching the lever screw head. The real pain is you have to be able to put pressure on the screw head while at the same time pulling the lever towards you, which frees the screw from the lever. It took me a minute but eventually I got it. And I must say, it's a panacea. Can't recommend it enough but you gotta want it!
