STRIPE TAPE - ok?

Once again, I couldn't evaluate a consensus from
past posts - so I'll ask fresh:
is it a good practice to pre-stripe tapes to avoid
timecode breaks and to give you the liberty to
do mid-taping playback without losing TC?

Re: STRIPE TAPE - ok?

it is not required. Stiping tapes creates more of a chance for dropouts, and with the dvx the rec. check button aids in restoring and playback or power drop breaks you may get.

Re: STRIPE TAPE - ok?

I have never in my life striped a tape. As Jarred says, use the rec-check button and you'll never get a timecode break.

Re: TC breaks

Re: TC breaks

Hello,

Question for you: I have been using the 100a for about two weeks now and I have noticed that I get a TC break everytime the camera is powered down or if it goes into stanby mode. Will the "rec-check" button solve this problem?

Thanks.

Re: STRIPE TAPE - ok?

yes rec check will fix it. but to avoid dropouts when you power off, wait for the red light to stop blinking before you change batteries. You can also change to regen timecode

Re: STRIPE TAPE - ok?

Jarred - what did you mean 'You can also change'? Sounds like something to regenerate the TC, but I didn't get it.

I'm having the same problem (all the footage that I shot reflects these time code breaks that coincide with power down) I always wait for the red light to power off before the battery is removed. Rec check sounds good but it seems to always chop off some of the previous footage--you can accommodate for this but it sounds like a drag. any solutions (your post is ancient so you are probably an expert by now?

In the record settings in the menu
Change the method of recording TC from Preset to ReGen.

If possible always record a little extra at the head and tail. Certainly do this if you're shooting a standard narrative. Rolling and action give a head. And .... cut... give you some tail.
This makes it easier to log/capture and provides room for the rec check although to be honest I don't think you really lose any/much from rec check.

I've personally made it a habit to leave pre/post roll, at least 10 seconds. I find myself shooting something for a couple seconds. Putting the camera at my side and walking somewhere else, and then my finger automatically stops it a few seconds later. It's really weird but I guess it works.
