Street - A Cure for Boredom II

Hey again.

Just finished another one of my little minis.
The feedback I got from my last one was very helpful although it didn't translate into this one very much.

This was shot this afteroon and the concept is simple: My Street. The street I live in. I just tried to catch little details that grabbed me on my way walking home.

I'm basically tried to work with the same theme but varied it a bit. Unfortunatly it made it more uneven than "Autumn". I tried to refrain from using so many closeups and held back on the focusing action but DV doesn't handle wide shots as well as the closeups.

STREET

I'm still trying to find a balance in my work and these short shorts are a great teaching tool and alot of fun to make.

This mini-move concept is very much a work in progress and any feedback is very welcome. I'm going to try to do something comepletly diffrent next time around although I'm probably still going to be trying to give character to dead objects :)

Looks great. Something oddly moving about the whole thing. Did you use default settings, and did you do any color correction in post? The colors were very rich.

Thanks.

Yeah. Just default settings (Scene-file 6 25p) And some post work in Vegas (CC, levels, saturation, contrast, cropping)

Great colors, Did you do any cc?. Eitherway, I wish I could take intresting images of my street, but unfortunatly. I live in Las Vegas, where every house looks like this,

(yay for google!)

Wow,
Your clips on here each time arouse extreme emotion and jealousy! I love your shots. I thought that was absolutely beautiful. The music was perfect with the shots, the shots were masterfully framed, the shots were just beautiful. I'm in awe of your work. I'm also quite infatuated with Iceland in the first place...amazing.

You seem to have the most filmic looking shots I've seen. You've really learned how to capture that shallow depth of field. Nice work! =)

Are you using any sort of 35mm adapter, or are they stock lens? I love the Pal version of the DVX, I heard it simulates the film look much better then NTSC, now I see why?

Great work!

Being a Philip Glass fan, it would be easy to sell me on such footage - but this was quite wonderful. I love the mood, the colours, and most definitely envy living somewhere other than Ohio! But, as soon as I see Sun again, I am inspired to try my best to capture what is sure to be something wonderful around here - it is Autumn after all.

Congrats man - I just got my DVX as well - so it's very inspiring to see such footage!

Please Share!!!
How are you doing this?

Disjecta, anybody, How is HE doing this. CC, Contrast, & Saturation that is...
I want to do it also.

Specifics please. Point the way for those less fortunate :)

haha! I love the name of that street; "Magic Moment lane" :)
It sure beats this street sign

Also, the shoots you took were beautiful. I wish I could have the same success. Do you mind posting some stills of your uncorrected footage?

Ok, Random capture:

I use different settings for different shots and I expose each shot slightly differently so it's hard to give a concrete answer to what settings I use. I just mainly do it by eye, what seems pleasing to my eye and what particular feel I'm trying to get from a particular shot.

For this shot I pushed the contrast to 0,45, reduced the saturation to 0,75 and cooled the image a bit down by pushing the midtones slightly towards blue/cyan (325,2). I paid no real attention to the numbers while doing it, just did it by eye and these settings are not broadcast standard and not broadcast checked.

I really like to crush the blacks and push the highlights till they almost blow out (and they sometimes do), and then play a bit with the colors.

But I mean, I use different settings for each set-up. I like to shoot my outside shots on overcast days because of the natural constrast of the light.

Just use what works for you...

Thanks for the reply...

If I may ask, What is the Best to go about "Chrushing the Blacks", that is my weak point
in attempted to capture the "Feel" you so beautifully have a grip on.

Yours and Disjectas look is very elusive to many, especially me.
Any help is greatly appreciated.

someone posed a question earlier not answered, did you use any type of 35mm adapter or did you back up in zoom in for your DOF?

cool stuff; I live in Phoenix were urban sprawl has completely removed any uniqueness from our neighborhoods. It looks as if one big giant with a single mold went around stamping houses out.

No, no adapter. Just the stock lense and zoomed way in and tried to open up the iris as much as I could. I am looking for a 35mm adapter solution because it's a pain having to zoom all the way in because it limits your flexibilty...
