Strangest Monitor/5D Behaviour

I have both a new 5D and TVLogic 056WP monitor and, when I use them together, the 5D displays the buffer-filling-up bar on the upper right of the display and shuts down. Disconnect the monitor and the 5D works fine.

I've tried with both 2.0.9 and 2.1.1. No luck with either. I called Canon who say that if I use UDMA cards I won't have the problem. That doesn't sound right to me but I'm new at this.

CF card speeds play a role so much with the canon cameras, especially 5D, there are some quirks that you think dont have anything to do with the card but they do. whats your current cf card specs?

I have tried four different cards. Two of them belonged to someone else and I don't have them in front of me so I don't know if they were UDMA. The two I have here are non-UDMA and have write speeds of 30 and 60 MB/s, respectively. I have also tried two different HDMI cables between the camera and the two monitors I tried.

whats the capacity of these cards? I use transcend and kingston elite pro both at 133X and they work okay. They are 8gig and 32gig. Its highly probable that its not the hdmi cable.

So to clarify, your recording is trouble free WITHOUT the HDMI Monitor?

I have a Sandisk Extreme III 8GB 30MB/s, Sandisk Ulttra 16GB 30MB/s and a Sandisk Extreme 32GB 60MB/s. They will all record without apparent issue when the camera is DISconnected from the the monitor and all fail when connected to the monitor, although I'm still not convinced it's a card issue.

I've also tried with a Lilliput monitor with the same result.

ok, just trying to check off the usual suspects here, have you formatted these cards in-camera?

added: your not using magic lantern right?

All of the cards tried were formatted in-camera first. I'm not using Magic Lantern although earlier today I tried to load it with the hope that it might help. Based on the way it behaved, I don't think I loaded it properly and have since reverted to 2.0.9. In any case, none of the tests described in earlier posts were with Magic Lantern installed and all were before that installation attempt.

UPDATE: I purchased a UDMA card (Sandisk Extremet 30MB/s) as suggested by Canon and the problem persists. Unless everyone who shoots with a 5D and monitor has this problem but have never said anything, I have a bad camera. Sending it in for repair is going to be a serious drag.

SOLVED: Actually, I'm not sure if "solved" is the right way to put it but the problem went away when I turned "exposure simulation" off in the 5D. I wonder if it was designed to do that or if it's a bug.
