Strange spec inside lens?

My friend wanted me to post this picture of his DVX's lens:

He said he never bothered to check the lens with a flash light really until today and noticed this spec when he was shooting for about 20 minutes outside in 44 degrees Fahrenheit weather at night. Any ideas? Camera is not under warranty. Is this something to worry about? He hasn't noticed any changes in image quality.

If he hasn't noticed any chances to the image quality then that's a good thing. In the picture it looks like the lens has been chipped, but I could be wrong. Maybe its a spec of dirt that got into the lens. Either way, I would suggest that his best bet to figure out whats wrong with the lens is to take it to a panny service centre. They charge 150.00 for inspection (at least in Canada they do).

All the best,

Thanks manymoosh, that's in Canadian dollars I assume, right?

I talked to my friend today, he said he went to a local repair house and showed the issue to them. They said it isn't an issue at all and will never affect the image because this spec is actually on the stopper for the lens NOT the lens itself. Seems pretty obvious now that we look at it...the actual lens is only that little part in the middle. heh
