Strange Recording malfunction on new DVX

Hi guys, my new DVX from EVS (thanks Rush) came today, hooray for me ;D

After playing around with it for a while, recording random things, I put it away (and removed the battery as the instruction manual told me), I set it aside for a few hours.

And then I picked it up again, put the battery in, did a one minute recording of my dad singing, stopped it, switched to VCR mode and rewound and played. Nothing. Only blue. I would swear to you that I had pressed the record button. I rewound some more, and now the timecode doesn't move. Up to that point I had recorded about 4 minutes of tape. So I rewound the tape to the beginning and played...and there was no playback of stuff I recorded earlier in the day!

Finally, I shut it off, turned it back on and played the tape from the beginning and then the first 50 seconds of the tape was all blue again! Finally after those 50 seconds, the images started coming back...and then I fast forwarded to the end and found no trace of video of my dad. I then rewound it to the beginning again and THIS TIME, the first 50 seconds of the tape started to play!

Is this a malfunction? I hope it isn't cause it would suck especially since I just got it today.

Please, any insight would be appreciated.

Many thanks

Something is not right. If you have another MQ tape, try it instead. Before you record, rewind to the beginning and record for a couple of minutes. If you encounter anything other than flawless playback, I would strongly suggest returning it for another one. The DV transport has been around for several years. There is no reason that you should have any problems. Sorry for the bad news.
