Frankly from where I sit, the hassle of exporting and importing to and from Japan your camera to get the free warranty repair will cost just about the same amount of money as what you will save but 4X the hassle. Of course you could just pay to have it fixed here, but that is the reality.
Jan

Jan, I bought from an authorized dealer so my question is not about grey market. I was wondering what panasonic has seen so far as to problems with the first wave of HVX's, if any, that have been adressed under the warranty? Everyone seems to be very concerned about the warranty when grey market is discussed and with any electronic device it is important for obvious reasons. I am probably reading too much into the above, but the comment has a level of certitude about not saving money in the end and I am sure warranty exposure is not that high of a percentage. Having said that, I would not buy finished consumer product on the grey market for all the reaons that have been stated, but to each his own.

I find it interesting that you say you are forced to do gray market because you don't have much cash. I'm low on cash as well but the idea of sending even 5k to someone who may not be a reputible dealer simply makes me feel cold inside.

You misunderstood the post. I WANT to find a reputable dealer that sells a gray market HVX. I'm not looking for a shady dealer that sells a shady product just to save money and I would NEVER buy a 5k camera off ebay.

And why is trying to save money while under the pressures of financial struggle so hard to comprehend?

I can't fathom anyone here is actually going to suggest you going to a unauthorized Panasonic Dealer to get your camera.

Barry said it best:

Buydig, Profeel, and Newegg are all non-authorized dealers who sell legit product when they have it, and all have received good reputations.

But if you're concerned about a particular company, look 'em up on resellerratings.com. And if you think you'll save $1,000 by going gray, definitely look them up on resellerratings.com to see what you're getting into.

The only way to save $1,000 on a DVX is to buy it used.

Whatever the case; good luck.
