Strange problem from my HPX170 - loss of Vertical Hold?

I know, I know, vertical hold should be a thing of the past - cathode ray tubes and all that. I was recording v.o. and didn't need the video (good thing!) but for about twenty minutes of footage this is all I got - so, if I'd needed the video I would have been outta luck. Take a look at this jpeg and tell me what happened! I'll also post a clip in a while.

I was recording 720/24PN, and the problem was there in one frame and not in the next. I haven't had the courage to take it out on a shoot, yet...

What say anyone?

i say shoot more footage and see if it happens again, play it on the camera and see if its the same.

Ditto to that..and do it ASAP with fresh battery and on a different P2 card..
also, was it possible that you had a strange feed coming in from your audio line ? possibly causing this issue thru the cam.... worth a check.... good to know issues so they can be avoided in the future...

PS, is your firmware in camera and on cards current worth a check also.

Cheers

I'm going to take it out tomorrow... a simple shoot, and will have a backup camera, just in case...

good that you have a backup but I would shoot the footage just anywhere and test it, dont test it on a shoot.
