Strange HVX Menu Button problem

Hey all,
We're on location on a shoot, and have just found a strange problem with our HVX200. All of the buttons under the handle (Menu, Play, Pause, Rewind, Fast Forward, Audio Dub/Thumbnail, Page/Audio Mon/var) are not responding. The Record/zoom on the handle is working. Also, the button to switch between CAMERA and VCR mode does not work. This HVX seems not to be able to switch into VCR mode.

This seemed to crop up when we inserted a battery while the POWER switch was set to ON. When it fired back up, the top buttons weren't working, along with the P2/TAPE switch, the auto/manual focus switch, and flipping the POWER button to OFF did not turn off the camera. The switch was set to OFF, but the camera remained powered.

When we took out the battery, placed it back on while the POWER button was in the OFF position, switched it on, the P2/TAPE switch worked, the auto/manual focus switch worked again, the POWER switched worked again, but all the MENU/PLAY/Volume buttons under the handle remain inert.
We've pressed the RESET button twice, but no joy.
Any ideas/experience/info would be much appreciated.

This is a problem that has been posted about multiple times. It seems to be becoming more common.
I'd send the camera in to Panasonic for service.
 
I don't want to start a panic, so don't go freaking out like people do too often.

But this seems to be happening to more people in the last month or so, I'm wondering if this could be related to the most recent firmware upgrade???

Maybe people could start listing the firmware version on their camera when this happens to them.
And if you guys do, why not add the card size, record mode and any other info that might help find a common link.
 
My cam is old old old (one of the first, from Dec. 2005) and I haven't upgraded the firmware since the 16GB card firmware came out a year ago.
 
I have a camera that shipped with 4.06 and I've had the problem intermittently. I've never had it happen in tape mode, only P2.
The last firmware update was almost a year ago.
 
dang you!!! each time i read a post like this.... i think the last one was the beep issue, and all of a sudden i started to notice the beep!!! now that i read this issue i will probably notice the issue with the buttons not responding. Dang you.. now im doomed.... lol... Just kidding..

I have not had this problem.. im sure i'll have it now that im aware.. (sig) I have not upgraded my HVX from when i purchased it which was formatted for the 16 p2 cards...
