Strange Horizontal Flickers

Hello everyone!

Maybe someone can help me out with a problem I'm having with my HVX. I've tried the search, but can't find anything on this topic. I'm shooting in 1080/24pa, and in my footage I'm getting some strange horizontal artifacts, specifically the top 4 rows of my image are dubious, with weird colorations on the 2nd and 4th rows from top, and it seems like all 4 rows are vertically off center with the rest of the image. To illustrate, I zoomed 800% on the top of one image:

Note that there is some periodicity to this, hence it leads to flicker in my clips. Specifically the problem occurs once every four frames (after advanced pulldown in fcp6). For a second I thought it might be a pulldown problem, but notice for example in the link above, that the artifacts change nature about 1/3 of the way into the row. So now I'm confused =) I don't get anything like this in 720p or pn either, btw.

Weird. Anyone seen something like this before?

Thanks in advance!

He used DVCProHD for the video codec, which is not supported by the Windows version of QuickTime.

I've done some extensive testing, and it is definitely on the camera side. Doesn't seem related to the CCDs. The problem is only present in 1080i 24pA mode. When switched to 1080i 24P, or any other mode, there problem is gone. I've tried ABB balance, and tweaking just about every setting or switch on the camera, and the problem is still there.

I was monitoring the live feed using Conduit Live. When monitoring through analog component I wasn't able to notice the flickering line on both a Marshall LCD Monitor or 40" Sony 1080p LCD TV. It seems those top lines don't make it to the TV's or monitor's visible area.

I am also able to notice the problem when playing back the imported clips in Quicktime.

Like I mentioned before, this problem is present in two HVX-200's bought almost a year apart.

i do also have the same problem with my PAL camera. But when i print the footage to dvd or a dv cassette the problem don't accufre anymore. One of my friend told its because about my matrox display card.He says it is not powerfull enough to show that quality so when the card can't read the data that strange lines accure.:(
