Strange, Frightening Red Round "X"

Not that I have enough problems already, now my little dvxA frequently displays a flashing red circle with an "X" in the middle of it. It appears in the upper left corner of the display, and in record mode. I have seen no such display indicated anywhere in the manual. It will come on while in record, and sometimes go off, only to come on again. It is frightening and disturbing. I think I have problems. Panasonic tech puts you on hold 40-50 min. EVERYtime. It is NOT a " no tape" indicator. HELP!!! :'(

I got my DVX today (literally!), and I've been chugging through the manual. So much stuff to learn....

Check out page 52.

Little red x: "This flashes when the cylinder head is dirty"

Mine recently did this as well with only 20 hours through the heads.
Turns out, the tape was actually jammed somehow. I removed the tape and flipped up the cover and could see a "wrinkle"

rather than risk it, I just threw the tape away as I hadn't recorded anything on it yet.
